Focus ST Mk4: 5x108, a 63.4 mm hub, M12 x 1.5 nuts

The fourth-generation Ford Focus ST, whose first Swiss vehicle type records date from July 2019, in 5-door and estate form, is 5x108 on a 63.4 mm hub, with M12 x 1.5 wheel nuts tightened to 135 Nm: wheelfitment.eu, koleso.ee and SCC give these measurements, each cited in the table; SCC gives a slightly lower torque.

17, 18 or 19 inches: an offset of 50 or 55

The vehicle type record of the Swiss Federal Roads Office (ASTRA), the document that sets the tyre and wheel combinations a car may carry, permits for the Focus ST the same wheel on both axles, on both the 206 kW 2.3 EcoBoost and the 140 kW 2.0 EcoBlue: 8J x 19 with an offset of 55, with 235/35 R19 tyres; 8J x 18 with an offset of 55, with 235/40 R18 tyres; 7J x 17 with an offset of 50, with 215/50 R17 tyres. The August 2022 record for the 2.3 EcoBoost now permits only the 18 and 19-inch wheels.

A front-wheel-drive car: the front carries the most

The record for the 2.3 EcoBoost 5-door gives a permissible load of 1,075 kg on the front axle, i.e. 537.5 kg per front wheel, and 950 kg on the rear axle; that of the 2.0 EcoBlue, 1,110 kg at the front. This is the load the front wheel must withstand, and the tyre must keep at least the load index of the original fitment (reading a tyre (page in French)).

What these measurements say about a forged wheel

The offset positions the wheel in the wheel arch: a wider wheel, or a lower offset, brings it closer to the wing. The offset calculator compares two fitments: it compares, it does not choose the measurement for you.

Roadworthiness test: what is examined

The French roadworthiness test (contrôle technique) examines the wheel without removing it (cracks, deformation, a wheel that protrudes beyond the bodywork) and verifies that the tyre size is one provided for by the manufacturer or accepted as equivalent. Keeping a tyre size from the original fitment, and at least its load index, avoids having to justify it; the details are on the roadworthiness test and registration page.
