Questions about our forged wheels

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about our custom forged wheels: materials, manufacture, customisation, the JWL/VIA standards and delivery.

Design and materials

What is a forged wheel, and why is it better?

A forged wheel is made by compressing a block of aluminium under very high pressure, which lines up the grain of the metal and removes porosity. The result is a wheel 15 to 25% lighter than a cast wheel of comparable design, and an alloy that bends before it breaks: its elongation is around 10 to 12%, against about 6% for a cast wheel.

Why do you use 6061-T6 aluminium?

Our wheels are made of forged 6061-T6 aluminium, an alloy also used in aircraft construction, which combines low weight, strength and machinability. Its T6 treatment (solution heat treatment, quenching and artificial ageing) gives it its hardness and its mechanical strength.

What is the difference between monoblock, two-piece and three-piece?

Monoblock (1P): forged as a single piece, very light, ideal for pure performance. Two-piece (2P): a forged centre with an assembled barrel, for a deep lip and aggressive fitment. Three-piece (3P): three parts assembled by hand (centre, outer barrel and inner barrel), for complete bespoke freedom, extreme widths and the characteristic visible bolts. The three-piece is made on quotation: monoblock and two-piece are the constructions customers ask for most, and the three-piece is kept for projects that need it.

Customisation and ordering

Can I customise my wheels?

Yes, entirely. Diameter, width, offset (ET), concave profile, finish, colour: every parameter can be adjusted. Our online configurator (in French) shows your design in real time, before the Onyx Forged design office validates it.

What is the delivery time?

The wheels are delivered in 4 to 8 working weeks (Monday to Friday, excluding French public holidays), shipping included, from full payment for an order on the website, or from the deposit for an order on quotation, and at the earliest from your approval of the measurements, the colour or the 3D render you asked for, under article 5.1 of the Terms and Conditions. This time covers the bespoke CAD design, forging, 5-axis CNC machining, finishing and quality checks. Within this range, the date depends on the technical complexity of the order and on production constraints. The delivery time, step by step, is explained on a page in French.

Will your wheels fit my car?

Each Onyx Forged wheel is made to measure for your car's exact specifications (PCD, offset, centre bore, maximum load). No spacers or spigot rings are needed.

Standards and safety

Are your wheels designed to JWL/VIA standards?

Our wheels are designed to JWL/VIA standards, which set requirements for resistance to fatigue, impacts and dynamic loads on passenger car wheels. Every project is validated by the Onyx Forged design office before production: measurements, thicknesses and geometry are checked for your car and the way you use it. As parts made one at a time to your specifications, they do not go through an individual approval procedure: we would rather tell you so clearly before you order. A page in French explains what roadworthiness checks look at, country by country.

Do you offer a warranty?

Yes. All our wheels come with a 5-year Onyx Forged commercial warranty from the date of delivery, covering manufacturing and material defects and structural failures not caused by abnormal use. This warranty is in addition to your statutory rights. The full terms are set out in our Terms and Conditions (in French).

Delivery and payment

Do you deliver internationally?

Yes. Delivery is free to mainland France, Switzerland, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Norway, Iceland, Andorra, Monaco, San Marino and Liechtenstein, and to the French overseas departments and territories on quotation, which sets the delivery time (Terms and Conditions, article 5.2). Shipping is by a tracked premium carrier, with transit insurance included. For any other destination, a personalised quotation is available on request. For Great Britain, UK import VAT, the carrier's clearance fee and any import duty are collected by the carrier. For these orders, our checkout charges in pounds sterling. It converts the euro price at its exchange rate on the day, currency conversion charge included, so the amount in pounds is about 2% more than a straight conversion at the market rate; the amount shown at checkout is the one charged for your order. Worked example for Great Britain: on 4 October 2026, our checkout priced a set of four 21″ monoblock wheels (€3,550 on this website) at £3,084. UK import VAT adds £616.80 (20%), so £3,700.80 with UK import VAT, before the carrier's clearance fee and any import duty. The carrier sets its clearance fee and shows it on its notice: for example, DHL Express charges £11 or 2.5% of the duty and VAT it pays, whichever is higher. With DHL Express, the fee on that set would be £15.42 (2.5% of £616.80, which is more than £11), so £3,716.22 in total, before any import duty. Any import duty depends on the UK tariff in force when your wheels arrive: the amount you pay is the one on the carrier's notice, and UK import VAT then applies to it too. Every diameter is set out on our Delivery to Great Britain page.

How does payment work?

On the website, you pay the amount shown at checkout in a single payment: the delivery time runs from that payment, and at the earliest from your approval of the measurements, the colour or the 3D render you asked for, under article 5.1 of the Terms and Conditions. Or you pay in 3 interest-free instalments on quotation: 40% on order, 30% 10 days after the deposit, 30% 21 days after the deposit. Each instalment is requested by email, with its payment link, and everything is paid before delivery, with no fees or interest when each instalment is paid on its due date (Terms and Conditions, article 4.2). Payment in instalments applies to quotations calculated online by our configurator; a quotation drawn up by hand (a three-piece project, dimensions outside the grid, a colour or a combination on request) sets its own schedule. Delivery is free. Payment is by card, secured by Shopify Payments (PCI DSS level 1).

How do I track my order?

On the day your order goes into production, we let you know by email (Terms and Conditions, article 3.3); the carrier's tracking number is sent to you as soon as the shipment is collected. The Order tracking page (in French) shows whether your order is being prepared, has been shipped or has been delivered.
