Frequently asked questions: wheels for the Polestar 2 first generation

What are the original offsets for the wheels of a Polestar 2?

According to its Swiss vehicle type records, the rear wheel is wider than the front wheel, with the same tyre on both axles: 8J with an offset of 50 at the front and 9J with an offset of 53 at the rear, in both 19 and 20 inches; in 21 inches, 8.5J with an offset of 50 at the front and 9J with an offset of 53 at the rear. The 21-inch size is permitted from the May 2021 records, except on the 165 kW version. Polestar's owner's manuals give the same 19 and 20-inch wheels, and state that the front wheels must not swap places with the rear wheels. [10, 11, 15, 19, 23, 24]

Which tyres, and which load index, does a Polestar 2 take?

245/45 R19, 245/40 R20 or 245/35 R21, the same size on all four wheels, all with load index 99, i.e. 775 kg per tyre, and speed rating H: these are the combinations in its Swiss vehicle type records, from 2020 to 2024. [10, 11, 22, 25]

What is the load per wheel on a Polestar 2?

The Swiss vehicle type record of the 2020 two-motor version gives it a permissible load of 1,290 kg on the front axle and 1,410 kg on the rear axle, i.e. 645 and 705 kg per wheel; that of the facelifted 220 kW rear-wheel-drive version, 1,140 kg at the front and 1,390 kg at the rear, i.e. 695 kg per rear wheel. The tyre with load index 99 carries 775 kg. [10, 17, 25]

What PCD, centre bore and bolts does a Polestar 2 use?

The PCD is 5x108, the centre bore 63.4 mm, and the wheels are held by M14 x 1.5 bolts with a 60° conical seat: SCC, wheelfitment.eu, hubcentric-rings.com, koleso.ee and two German general operating permits (Allgemeine Betriebserlaubnis) for wheels, one of them for a Polestar accessory wheel, give these measurements. Polestar's owner's manuals set the tightening torque of the bolts at 140 Nm, with no lubricant on the threads. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9]

Which brakes does a Polestar 2 have?

According to Polestar, it has two-piston aluminium calipers on 345 x 30 mm ventilated discs at the front, and, with the Performance pack, four-piston Brembo front calipers on 375 x 35 mm discs. Polestar's 2021 manual states that the standard 19 and 20-inch wheels are not suitable for cars fitted with the Performance Pack. [23, 26, 27]

Publication rule: a measurement is shown only if a primary source gives it (a manufacturer's document, an official vehicle type record, an original parts catalogue, the maker of the original wheel) without another primary source contradicting it, or if two independent specialist sources agree without a primary source contradicting them. The press and forums do not count. Measurements checked on 20 October 2026 by the Onyx Forged design office.

Custom forged wheels for the Polestar 2 first generation

  • Forged 6061-T6 aluminium
  • 5-axis CNC machining
  • Designed to JWL/VIA standards
  • Fitment worked out for your Polestar 2 first generation

Polestar 2: 5x108, a 63.4 mm hub, M14 x 1.5 bolts

The Polestar 2, which Polestar put into production in March 2020 and whose facelift for the 2024 model year it announced in June 2023, uses 5x108 on a 63.4 mm hub, with M14 x 1.5 wheel bolts that have a 60° conical seat: SCC, wheelfitment.eu, hubcentric-rings.com, koleso.ee and two German operating permits for wheels, one of them for a Polestar accessory wheel, give these measurements, each cited in the table. Polestar's owner's manuals set the tightening torque of the bolts at 140 Nm, with no lubricant on the threads.

The same tyre on both axles, a wider rear wheel

The vehicle type record of the Swiss Federal Roads Office (ASTRA), the document that sets the tyre and wheel combinations a car may carry, permits a fitment for the Polestar 2 in which only the wheel changes from one axle to the other: 8J with an offset of 50 at the front and 9J with an offset of 53 at the rear, in both 19 inches (245/45 R19) and 20 inches (245/40 R20), and, from the May 2021 records, 8.5J and 9J in 21 inches (245/35 R21), except on the 165 kW version. Polestar's manual puts it in its own way: the front wheels must not swap places with the rear wheels.

Brakes: the Performance pack changes the wheel

Polestar specifies two-piston aluminium calipers as standard, on 345 x 30 mm discs at the front; with the Performance pack, four-piston Brembo front calipers on 375 x 35 mm discs. Its 2021 manual states that the standard 19 and 20-inch wheels are not suitable for cars fitted with this pack: the Onyx Forged design office starts from your calipers.

What a heavy, powerful electric car changes

The record for the 2020 two-motor version gives it a permissible load of 1,290 kg on the front axle and 1,410 kg on the rear axle, i.e. 705 kg per rear wheel, and all its original tyres have load index 99, which carries 775 kg: a replacement tyre must keep at least this index. The torque, available from the first turn of the wheel, and the mass wear tyres faster than on a combustion car of the same power; the tyre also affects cabin noise and range. A tyre marked HL (High Load) carries more at the same size. The guide electric car tyres: wear, HL index, noise and range (page in French) explains what each choice changes, and the guide wheels for a heavy car: the load per wheel (page in French) how to read the load the wheel must carry.

What these measurements say about a forged wheel

The offset positions the wheel in the wheel arch: a wider wheel, or a lower offset, brings it closer to the wing. The Onyx Forged design office starts from the measurements on this page, your brakes and your tyres to calculate the width and offset of your wheels, then submits them to you. The offset calculator compares two fitments: it compares, it does not choose the measurement for you.

Roadworthiness test: what is examined

The French roadworthiness test (contrôle technique) examines the wheel without removing it (cracks, deformation, a wheel that protrudes beyond the bodywork) and verifies that the tyre size is one provided for by the manufacturer or accepted as equivalent. Keeping a tyre size from the original fitment, and at least its load index, avoids having to justify it; the details are on the roadworthiness test and registration page.

What we record before machining

Configure your forged wheels for the Polestar 2

The Onyx Forged design office works out the measurements of your car from its exact version, stated on the registration document, and shows them to you before machining. Each set is cut from forged 6061-T6 aluminium, machined on a 5-axis CNC centre, as monoblock, two-piece or three-piece wheels; our wheels are designed to JWL/VIA standards. Prices by diameter and the lead time are given on this page, under “What Onyx can make”. Start your configuration or write to contact@onyxforgedwheels.com.
