The same mechanicals as the RS6, a different brief
The RS7 Sportback C8 shares most things with the RS6 C8: a 600 PS, 800 Nm twin-turbo 4.0 TFSI V8, a 48-volt system, quattro all-wheel drive, and even the original wheels, whose part number is common to both cars. What changes lies in the body and the use made of it. Where the RS6 is an estate that gets loaded, the RS7 is a five-door hatchback with a sloping roofline, whose profile reads in a single sweep. On this silhouette, the wheel is not one component among others: it is the only element that interrupts the line.
The measurements of the C8, shared with the RS6
All the original wheels of the RS7 C8 are 10.5J, with the sole exception of the 8.5J winter set. What changes from one fitment to another is the tyre: 275/35 ZR21 on the usual fitment, 285/30 ZR22 on the large-diameter option, 245/40 R21 on the winter set. The rest belongs to the platform, shared with the RS6 C8: a 5x112 PCD (bolt pattern). Audi also declares its original complete winter wheels compatible with both cars. On the other hand, the ride height and the line of the wing do not read the same way from one body to the other: at equal offset, the visual effect is not the same.
The load does not drop because the boot is smaller
An RS7 weighs more than two tonnes and sends 800 Nm to four wheels. The original 21-inch fitment, in 275/35 ZR21, carries load index 103, i.e. 875 kg per tyre; the 22-inch option, in 285/30 ZR22, is load index 101, i.e. 825 kg. The fact that the car does not carry a family and its luggage changes nothing about the sizing: the load is set by the axle, not by the size of the boot. So we set the permissible load per wheel before any design work, and it limits the number of spokes as on the RS6.
A design that has to work within a taut profile
On a hatchback saloon, the eye travels along the car from front to back without a break, and the wheel becomes the point where it stops. A full, dark face tightens the silhouette and sends the eye back towards the rear haunches; fine spokes and a deep barrel stretch it out and hollow out the wheel arch. There is no right answer in the absolute, only a decision to be made while looking at your car. Two-piece or three-piece construction comes into its own here: it frees up barrel depth without dictating the face design.
Configure your custom RS7 C8 wheels
Monoblock for the lowest mass, two-piece or three-piece for depth and the finish of the lip. Design, concave profile, exposed or hidden bolts: everything is decided with you, within the limits set by the load. Our wheels are designed to JWL/VIA standards and machined on a 5-axis CNC. Price and lead time each have their own page: custom forged wheel prices and lead time. Send us an inspiration photo: our configurator turns it into a render applied to your RS7.
