Frequently asked questions: wheels for the Ford Mustang S550

What are the original offsets for the wheels of a Ford Mustang S550?

The Swiss vehicle type records of the Mustang (type LAE) permit a 9J x 19 wheel with an offset of 45, on both axles, on the 2.3 EcoBoost and, until 2020, on the GT. As a staggered fitment, the GT and the Bullitt have a 9.5J x 19 wheel with an offset of 52.5 at the rear; the Mach 1 has a 9.5J x 19 wheel with an offset of 40 at the front and a 10J x 19 wheel with an offset of 52.5 at the rear. [8, 14, 20, 24]

Which tyres, and which load index, does a Ford Mustang S550 take?

255/40 R19 on both axles, with load index 96 in the 2015 records, i.e. 710 kg per tyre, and 100 afterwards, i.e. 800 kg; at the rear of a staggered fitment, 275/40 R19, with load index 101 then 105, i.e. 825 then 925 kg. [14, 16, 27]

What is the load per wheel on a Ford Mustang GT S550?

The Swiss vehicle type record of the 2015 Mustang GT Fastback gives it a permissible load of 1,050 kg on the front axle, i.e. 525 kg per front wheel, and 1,100 kg on the rear axle, i.e. 550 kg per rear wheel. The 275/40 R19 rear tyre with load index 101 in the same record carries 825 kg. [14, 27]

What PCD, centre bore and nuts does a Ford Mustang S550 use?

The PCD is 5x114.3, the centre bore 70.5 mm, and the wheels are held by M14 x 1.5 nuts: wheelfitment.eu, hubcentric-rings.com, koleso.ee and SCC give these measurements (SCC gives a centre bore one tenth of a millimetre larger). A Ford Performance instruction sheet for the 2015 to 2020 Mustang sets the tightening torque of the nuts at 150 lb-ft, i.e. 204 Nm, tightened in a star pattern. [1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7]

Which brakes does a Ford Mustang GT S550 have?

The Ford Performance catalogue presents front brakes with six-piston Brembo calipers and 15-inch ventilated discs as the original equipment of the 2015 to 2019 Mustang GT “Performance Package”. The Swiss vehicle type records we have read permit only 19-inch wheels on the Mustang. [14, 20, 28]

Publication rule: a measurement is shown only if a primary source gives it (a manufacturer's document, an official vehicle type record, an original parts catalogue, the maker of the original wheel) without another primary source contradicting it, or if two independent specialist sources agree without a primary source contradicting them. The press and forums do not count. Measurements checked on 20 October 2026 by the Onyx Forged design office.

Custom forged wheels for the Ford Mustang S550

  • Forged 6061-T6 aluminium
  • 5-axis CNC machining
  • Designed to JWL/VIA standards
  • Fitment worked out for your Ford Mustang S550

Mustang S550: 5x114.3, a 70.5 mm hub, M14 x 1.5 nuts

The Ford Mustang S550, Fastback and convertible, sold from 2015 to 2023 according to Ford's official shop, is 5x114.3 on a 70.5 mm hub, with M14 x 1.5 wheel nuts: wheelfitment.eu, hubcentric-rings.com, koleso.ee and SCC give these measurements, each cited in the table. A Ford Performance instruction sheet sets the tightening torque of the nuts at 204 Nm, tightened in a star pattern.

19-inch wheels, square or staggered

The vehicle type record of the Swiss Federal Roads Office (ASTRA), the document that sets the tyre and wheel combinations a car may carry, permits only 19-inch wheels on the Mustang. The 2.3 EcoBoost has the same wheel on both axles: 9J with an offset of 45, with 255/40 R19 tyres. The GT and the Bullitt also take it until 2020, and receive, as a staggered fitment, a 9.5J wheel at the rear with 275/40 R19 tyres and an offset of 52.5: this half-millimetre is not rounded, the table cell stays empty and the exact value is in the FAQ. The records from November 2020 to December 2023 no longer permit anything but the staggered fitment on the GT. The Mach 1 has 9.5J with an offset of 40 at the front and 10J with an offset of 52.5 at the rear. For winter, the record permits the 9J x 19 wheel with an offset of 45 on both axles.

Brembo brakes and load per wheel

The Ford Performance catalogue presents six-piston Brembo front brakes, on 15-inch discs, as the original equipment of the 2015 to 2019 Mustang GT “Performance Package”: before designing a wheel, the Onyx Forged design office starts from your car's calipers. The record for the 2015 GT Fastback gives it a permissible load of 1,100 kg on the rear axle, i.e. 550 kg per rear wheel: this is the load the rear wheel must withstand.

What these measurements say about a forged wheel

The offset positions the wheel in the wheel arch: a wider wheel, or a lower offset, brings it closer to the wing. The Onyx Forged design office starts from the measurements on this page, your brakes and your tyres to calculate the width and offset of your wheels, then submits them to you. The offset calculator compares two fitments: it compares, it does not choose the measurement for you.

Roadworthiness test: what is examined

The French roadworthiness test (contrôle technique) examines the wheel without removing it (cracks, deformation, a wheel that protrudes beyond the bodywork) and verifies that the tyre size is one provided for by the manufacturer or accepted as equivalent. Keeping a tyre size from the original fitment, and at least its load index, avoids having to justify it; the details are on the roadworthiness test and registration page.

What we record before machining

Configure your forged wheels for the Ford Mustang S550 (2015-2023)

The Onyx Forged design office works out the measurements of your car from its exact version, stated on the registration document, and shows them to you before machining. Each set is cut from forged 6061-T6 aluminium, machined on a 5-axis CNC centre, as monoblock, two-piece or three-piece wheels; our wheels are designed to JWL/VIA standards. Prices by diameter and the lead time are given on this page, under “What Onyx can make”. Start your configuration or write to contact@onyxforgedwheels.com.
