Frequently asked questions: wheels for the Lotus Emira first generation

What are the original offsets for the wheels of a Lotus Emira?

A staggered 20-inch fitment, according to its Swiss vehicle type records: 8.5J with an offset of 57 at the front, and 10.5J at the rear, with an offset of 54 on the V6 and 64 on the four-cylinder. For the same width, the rear wheel of a V6 and that of a four-cylinder therefore do not sit in the same place. [6, 11, 12, 17]

Which tyres, and which load index, does a Lotus Emira take?

245/35 R20 with load index 95 at the front, i.e. 690 kg per tyre, and 295/30 R20 with load index 101 at the rear, i.e. 825 kg; for winter, the V6 permits 235/35 R20 with load index 92 and 285/30 R20 with load index 99 on the same wheels. [6, 12, 18]

What is the load per wheel on a Lotus Emira?

The Swiss vehicle type record of August 2022 gives the Emira V6 a permissible load of 690 kg on the front axle and 1,073 kg on the rear axle, i.e. 345 and 536.5 kg per wheel: the mid-mounted engine loads the rear. That of the February 2024 four-cylinder gives 697 and 1,048 kg, i.e. 348.5 and 524 kg per wheel. The 295/30 R20 rear tyre with load index 101 carries 825 kg. [6, 12, 18]

What PCD, centre bore and bolts does a Lotus Emira use?

The PCD is 5x114.3, and the wheels are held by M12 x 1.5 bolts tightened to 105 Nm: wheelfitment.eu and koleso.ee give these measurements, and ThreePiece.us and BONOSS the PCD and the bolts. The centre bore adopted is 68.1 mm, that of koleso.ee and of BONOSS; ThreePiece.us gives 69.1 mm, and wheelfitment.eu both values depending on the page: the Onyx Forged design office establishes it for your car, from its registration document or its VIN, and submits it to you before machining. Publication rule: a measurement is shown only if a primary source gives it (a manufacturer's document, an official vehicle type record, an original parts catalogue, the maker of the original wheel) without another primary source contradicting it, or if two independent specialist sources agree without a primary source contradicting them. The press and forums do not count. Measurements checked on 21 October 2026 by the Onyx Forged design office.

Custom forged wheels for the Lotus Emira first generation

  • Forged 6061-T6 aluminium
  • 5-axis CNC machining
  • Designed to JWL/VIA standards
  • Fitment worked out for your Lotus Emira first generation

Lotus Emira: 5x114.3, M12 x 1.5 bolts tightened to 105 Nm

The Lotus Emira (type 131), whose first Swiss vehicle type record dates from August 2022 for the V6 and from February 2024 for the four-cylinder, is 5x114.3, with M12 x 1.5 wheel bolts tightened to 105 Nm: wheelfitment.eu and koleso.ee give these measurements, and ThreePiece.us and BONOSS the PCD (bolt pattern) and the bolts, each cited in the table. The centre bore adopted is 68.1 mm, that of koleso.ee and of BONOSS, which tried its spacers on the car's wheels; ThreePiece.us gives 69.1 mm, and wheelfitment.eu one value or the other depending on the page. The databases do not all agree: the Onyx Forged design office settles it for your car before machining.

A staggered 20-inch fitment, a rear offset that depends on the engine

The vehicle type record of the Swiss Federal Roads Office (ASTRA), the document that sets the tyre and wheel combinations a car may carry, permits for the Emira a staggered 20-inch fitment, wider at the rear: 8.5J with an offset of 57 at the front, with 245/35 R20 tyres, and 10.5J at the rear, with 295/30 R20 tyres. The rear offset depends on the engine: 54 on the 298 kW V6, 64 on the 268 or 298 kW four-cylinder. For the same width, the rear wheel of a four-cylinder therefore sits further inside the wheel arch. For winter, the V6 permits 235/35 R20 and 285/30 R20 on the same wheels.

A mid-mounted engine: the rear carries the most

The August 2022 record for the V6 gives a permissible load of 690 kg on the front axle and 1,073 kg on the rear axle, i.e. 345 and 536.5 kg per wheel; that of the February 2024 four-cylinder, 697 and 1,048 kg. This is the load the rear wheel must withstand, and the rear tyre must keep at least the load index of the original fitment, 101 on 295/30 R20 (reading a tyre (page in French)).

What these measurements say about a forged wheel

The offset positions the wheel in the wheel arch: a wider wheel, or a lower offset, brings it closer to the wing. The Onyx Forged design office starts from the measurements on this page, your brakes and your tyres to calculate the width and offset of your wheels, then submits them to you. The offset calculator compares two fitments: it compares, it does not choose the measurement for you.

Roadworthiness test: what is examined

The French roadworthiness test (contrôle technique) examines the wheel without removing it (cracks, deformation, a wheel that protrudes beyond the bodywork) and verifies that the tyre size is one provided for by the manufacturer or accepted as equivalent. Keeping a tyre size from the original fitment, and at least its load index, avoids having to justify it; the details are on the roadworthiness test and registration page.

What we record before machining

Configure your forged wheels for the Lotus Emira

The Onyx Forged design office works out the measurements of your car from its exact version, stated on the registration document, and shows them to you before machining. Each set is cut from forged 6061-T6 aluminium, machined on a 5-axis CNC centre, as monoblock, two-piece or three-piece wheels; our wheels are designed to JWL/VIA standards. Prices by diameter and the lead time are given on this page, under “What Onyx can make”. Start your configuration or write to contact@onyxforgedwheels.com.
