Frequently asked questions: wheels for the Toyota GR86 ZN8
What are the original offsets for the wheels of a Toyota GR86?
An offset of 48, on both axles, according to its Swiss vehicle type records: 7.5J x 17 or 7.5J x 18, the same wheel at the front and at the rear. [3, 4]
Which tyres, and which load index, does a Toyota GR86 take?
215/45 R17 with load index 87, i.e. 545 kg per tyre, or 215/40 R18 with load index 85, i.e. 515 kg, on both axles. [3, 4, 5]
What is the load per wheel on a Toyota GR86?
Its Swiss vehicle type record gives it a permissible load of 876 kg on the front axle and 943 kg on the rear axle, i.e. 438 and 471.5 kg per wheel: on this rear-wheel-drive car, the rear carries the most. The 215/40 R18 tyre with load index 85 carries 515 kg. [4, 5]
What PCD (bolt pattern), centre bore and nuts does a Toyota GR86 use?
The PCD is 5x100, the centre bore 56.1 mm, and the wheels are held by M12 x 1.25 nuts: koleso.ee and SCC give these measurements for the GR86 (ZN8). The tightening torque is not published: only one database gives it for this generation. [1, 2]
Same fixing measurements
As original equipment, these cars have the same PCD, centre bore, thread and fixing as the Toyota GR86 ZN8: PCD 5x100, centre bore 56.1 mm, thread M12 x 1.25, fixing: wheel nuts.
- Subaru BRZ ZD8 (since 2021)
Same fixing measurements; original diameters and offsets: see each car's page. The seat of the bolts or nuts, the width of the wheels and brake clearance are not compared here: this comparison is not an opinion on compatibility.
Sources for the measurements and answers

- Swiss Federal Roads Office (ASTRA), vehicle type record no. 1TB476 (Toyota GR86, type ZN8, 172 kW, April 2022): permitted tyre and wheel combinations (tyre, width x diameter, offset) and axle loads (primary source, consulted on 21 October 2026)
- Swiss Federal Roads Office (ASTRA), vehicle type record no. 1TB477 (Toyota GR86, type ZN8, 172 kW, April 2022): permitted tyre and wheel combinations (tyre, width x diameter, offset) and axle loads (primary source, consulted on 21 October 2026)
- Fiches-auto.fr, tyre load index table (index → kg) (reference table, for a conversion, consulted on 3 October 2026)
Publication rule: a measurement is shown only if a primary source gives it (a manufacturer's document, an official vehicle type record, an original parts catalogue, the maker of the original wheel) without another primary source contradicting it, or if two independent specialist sources agree without a primary source contradicting them. The press and forums do not count. Measurements checked on 21 October 2026 by the Onyx Forged design office.

GR86 ZN8: 5x100, a 56.1 mm hub, M12 x 1.25 nuts
The Toyota GR86 (ZN8), whose Swiss vehicle type record dates from April 2022, uses 5x100 on a 56.1 mm hub, with M12 x 1.25 wheel nuts: koleso.ee and SCC give these measurements for the GR86, each cited in the table. The tightening torque is not published: only one database gives it for this generation, and we have not read a Toyota manual that confirms it. A database entry devoted to the GT86, its predecessor, is not counted for the GR86.
17 or 18 inches, the same wheel on both axles
The vehicle type record of the Swiss Federal Roads Office (ASTRA), the document that sets the tyre and wheel combinations a car may carry, permits for the 172 kW GR86 a 7.5J wheel with an offset of 48, the same at the front and at the rear: in 17 inches fitted with 215/45 R17 tyres, or in 18 inches fitted with 215/40 R18 tyres. Its twin, the Subaru BRZ ZD8, shares the hub and the 18-inch wheel, but not the 17-inch wheel according to its own records.
A rear-wheel-drive car: the rear carries the most
The record gives a permissible load of 876 kg on the front axle and 943 kg on the rear axle, i.e. 438 and 471.5 kg per wheel. That is the load the rear wheel must carry, and the tyre must keep at least the load index of the original fitment (reading a tyre (page in French)).
What these measurements say about a forged wheel
The offset positions the wheel in the wheel arch: a wider wheel, or a lower offset, brings it closer to the wing. The Onyx Forged design office starts from the measurements on this page, your brakes and your tyres to calculate the width and offset of your wheels, then submits them to you. The offset calculator compares two fitments: it compares, it does not choose the measurement for you.
Roadworthiness test: what is examined
The French roadworthiness test (contrôle technique) examines the wheel without removing it (cracks, deformation, a wheel that protrudes beyond the bodywork) and verifies that the tyre size is one provided for by the manufacturer or accepted as equivalent. Keeping a tyre size from the original fitment, and at least its load index, avoids having to justify it; the details are on the roadworthiness test and registration page.
What we record before machining
- The exact version, stated on the registration document, and the current diameter of your wheels.
- The braking system, on which the smallest possible diameter depends (wheels and brakes (page in French)).
- The current fitment, axle by axle, and the 56.1 mm hub bore.
Configure your forged wheels for the Toyota GR86 (ZN8)
The Onyx Forged design office works out the measurements of your car from its exact version, stated on the registration document, and shows them to you before machining. Each set is cut from forged 6061-T6 aluminium, machined on a 5-axis CNC centre, as monoblock, two-piece or three-piece wheels; our wheels are designed to JWL/VIA standards. Prices by diameter and the lead time are given on this page, under “What Onyx can make”. Start your configuration or write to contact@onyxforgedwheels.com.
