Frequently asked questions: wheels for the BMW M4 F82
What are the original offsets on an M4 F82?
The same on all summer fitments: 29 mm at the front, 40 mm at the rear, in 18, 19 and 20 inches (9J and 10J). BMW winter wheels are 8.5J ET 27 at the front and 9J ET 29 at the rear. [7, 8, 9]
Do carbon-ceramic brakes impose a minimum diameter on the M4 F82?
Yes: BMW excludes 18-inch wheels with carbon-ceramic brakes (CSiC). The minimum is 19 inches. [7, 8]
Can snow chains be fitted to an M4 F82?
Not with the summer fitments: BMW states “keine Schneeketten zulässig” for all summer wheels of the F80/F82/F83 family. [7, 8]

Publication rule: a measurement is shown only if a primary source gives it (a manufacturer's document, an official vehicle type record, an original parts catalogue, the maker of the original wheel) without another primary source contradicting it, or if two independent specialist sources agree without a primary source contradicting them. The press and forums do not count. Measurements checked on 10 October 2026 by the Onyx Forged design office.

5x120: the PCD (bolt pattern) of the F8x family
The M4 F82 is drilled 5x120, like the M3 F80, of which it is the coupé version. BMW's lists of permitted wheels and tyres also give them the same original summer fitments, from 18 to 20 inches: 9J at ET 29 at the front, 10J at ET 40 at the rear. It is these measurements, and not the PCD, that bring the two cars together; and the carbon-ceramic brakes, with which BMW excludes 18 inches, are a reminder that a wheel is always calculated for the car itself. The break lies elsewhere: the M4 G82 that succeeds the F82 has moved to 5x112. Two cars that carry the same model name and do not take the same wheels: this is the first thing to check when looking at a listing, and it is almost never written in it.
What the F82 wore when new
Three diameters, a single pair of offsets: 29 mm at the front and 40 mm at the rear, whatever the diameter. In 18 inches, the car comes with 9J at the front on 255/40 R18 tyres and 10J at the rear on 275/40 R18. The optional 19-inch wheel keeps these widths with 255/35 and 275/35. The 20-inch wheel of the Competition package moves to 265/30 R20 at the front and 285/30 R20 at the rear. Remembering these values avoids a classic mistake: on an F82, changing diameter does not alter the track width; only a change of offset does, and that is then a choice, not a side effect.
F82 coupé, F83 convertible, and the more radical series
The generation covers the F82 coupé and the F83 convertible, heavier by a good margin because of the body reinforcements and the retractable roof, as well as sharper versions such as the M4 GTS and the M4 CS. The fixing measurements do not change from one variant to another; what changes is what is asked of the wheel. A convertible needs unsprung mass taken off to preserve comfort; a track-oriented version first needs wheel-centre stiffness and heat dissipation. Same PCD, different sizing.
Coupé, convertible and limited series: three different kinds of wear
The F82 comes as a coupé and as the F83 convertible, and the two do not age in the same place. A convertible statistically spends more time in coastal and winter use, and salt attacks the inner face of the wheel well before the outside gives anything away: it is behind the spoke that you need to look, not at the outer edge. On the limited series (M4 GTS, M4 CS), the reasoning is reversed: the original set is part of the car's value, and removing it to store it is better than wearing it out. In both cases, a second forged set settles the question without any trade-off: the car runs on wheels sized for its real use, and the originals stay dry.
Configure your BMW M4 F82 wheels
The project starts from your car, identified by its registration document or its VIN, whose calipers, offset and clearances we establish, never from a catalogue. Forged 6061-T6 aluminium, then 5-axis CNC machined. Our wheels are designed to JWL/VIA standards. Price and lead time each have their own page: custom forged wheel prices and lead time.
