Frequently asked questions: wheels for the BYD Seal first generation

What are the original offsets for the wheels of a BYD Seal?

The Seal's Swiss vehicle type record gives all its wheels an offset of 45, on both axles: 8J x 19 on all versions, and 7J x 18 as a second fitment on the 150 and 170 kW rear-wheel-drive Seal. [4, 5, 6, 7]

Which tyres, and which load index, does a BYD Seal take?

225/50 R18 of load index 95, i.e. 690 kg per tyre, on the 18-inch wheels, and 235/45 R19 of load index 99, i.e. 775 kg, on the 19-inch ones: these are the combinations in the Swiss vehicle type record, and BYD's owner's manual gives the same sizes. [3, 6, 7, 8]

What is the load per wheel on an all-wheel-drive BYD Seal?

The Swiss vehicle type record gives it a permissible load of 1,411 kg on the rear axle, i.e. 705.5 kg per rear wheel. The 235/45 R19 tyre of load index 99 in the same record carries 775 kg. A replacement wheel is sized on this load, not on the kerb weight. [5, 8]

What PCD, centre bore and fixings does a BYD Seal use?

The PCD is 5x120 and the centre bore 64.1 mm: wheelfitment.eu and hubcentric-rings.com give these measurements. The wheels are held by nuts, according to BYD's owner's manual. The thread and the tightening torque are not published: only one database gives the thread, and no BYD document we have read gives the torque. [1, 2, 3]

Publication rule: a measurement is shown only if a primary source gives it (a manufacturer's document, an official vehicle type record, an original parts catalogue, the maker of the original wheel) without another primary source contradicting it, or if two independent specialist sources agree without a primary source contradicting them. The press and forums do not count. Measurements checked on 20 October 2026 by the Onyx Forged design office.

Custom forged wheels for the BYD Seal first generation

  • Forged 6061-T6 aluminium
  • 5-axis CNC machining
  • Designed to JWL/VIA standards
  • Fitment worked out for your BYD Seal first generation

BYD Seal: 5x120 on a 64.1 mm hub

The BYD Seal uses 5x120, on a 64.1 mm hub: two independent specialist databases give the PCD and the centre bore, each cited in the table. Its wheels are held by nuts, as BYD's owner's manual states. The thread, the seat and the tightening torque of the nuts are not published here: no sufficient source gives them.

The fitments in the vehicle type record: an offset of 45 throughout

The Swiss vehicle type record, published by the Federal Roads Office, gives one fitment per variant, the same on both axles. All versions have 8J x 19 wheels with an offset of 45 and 235/45 R19 tyres of load index 99; the 150 and 170 kW rear-wheel-drive versions also have a 7J x 18 fitment, with the same offset of 45 and 225/50 R18 tyres of load index 95. BYD's owner's manual gives the same tyre sizes.

An electric saloon: load first

The all-wheel-drive Seal has a permissible load of 1,411 kg on the rear axle, i.e. 705.5 kg per rear wheel; the 235/45 R19 tyre of load index 99 carries 775 kg. A forged wheel is sized on this load, not on the kerb weight, and a replacement tyre must have at least the load index of the original fitment. The guide Heavy SUVs: what load must the wheel carry? (page in French) explains the calculation.

Noise and range: what the wheel changes

With no combustion engine to mask it, rolling noise is more noticeable, and a larger wheel with a wider tyre generally increases rolling resistance, and therefore consumption. Some replacement tyres carry the HL marking, which gives them more load capacity for the same size. The guide electric car tyres (page in French) explains wear, the HL marking, noise and range; the fitment is still determined by your car, whose measurements we record.

Configure your forged wheels for the BYD Seal

The Onyx Forged design office works out the measurements of your car from its exact version, stated on the registration document, and shows them to you before machining. Each set is cut from forged 6061-T6 aluminium, machined on a 5-axis CNC centre, as monoblock, two-piece or three-piece wheels; our wheels are designed to JWL/VIA standards. Prices by diameter and the lead time are given on this page, under “What Onyx can make”. Start your configuration or write to contact@onyxforgedwheels.com.
