Custom forged wheels for Mercedes AMG GT

The first-generation AMG GT (C190) places its V8 behind the front axle and its gearbox on the rear axle. The result is a balance, and a markedly different front and rear fitment, that few sports cars share. Onyx Forged has each set forged from a block of 6061-T6 aluminium, 5-axis CNC machined, with widths and offsets established separately for the front and the rear. Monoblock, two-piece or three-piece: the construction is chosen according to your actual use, road or track.

Mercedes-AMG GT: original wheels, brakes and weight

The figures below come from Mercedes-Benz's documents and from the sources listed below, read on 20 October 2026. They are the standard measurements of the versions named, not a recommendation: before any design, we work out the measurements of your car.

A transaxle architecture, two distinct axles

The AMG GT is not a lowered saloon. Its twin-turbo V8 is mounted longitudinally, behind the front axle; on the first generation (C190), its gearbox is also moved to the rear axle. This transaxle layout shifts the weight distribution rearwards and loads the rear: the two axles do not work in the same way and do not call for the same wheel. The rear track is wider, the tyre fitment more generous, and the difference in width between the two axles is among the most pronounced in German car production. We establish width, offset and profile axle by axle.

Lateral stiffness: what the track demands in addition

A wheel is not only a mass to be lightened: it is a link to the ground, and it deforms. Under heavy cornering load, the front wheel of a GT takes a lateral force that results in twisting of the wheel centre and deformation of the lip. The more it deforms, the more the tread shifts, and the less precise the steering remains at the exact moment you need it. High-pressure forging of 6061-T6 realigns the structure of the metal in the direction of the forces, with no porosity: for equal stiffness, the wheel is lighter.

Caliper clearance and heat extraction

AMG GT models are fitted with large-diameter brakes, in cast iron as well as in composite ceramic, with bulky calipers. The dish of the wheel centre, the junction of the spokes and the space around the hub must clear the caliper without compromise, including under load when the whole assembly is working. This is the point that most often rules out a design chosen from a photo. We record the braking measurements before finalising the design, and we adjust the profile rather than imposing a spacer. On a car driven on track, a face that is too closed also hampers cooling.

Monoblock, two-piece or three-piece

The monoblock remains a benchmark for stiffness and mass: a single piece, no assembly, the most direct answer for sustained road use or track driving. Two-piece construction allows the width and offset to be set independently of the face design, which is valuable on a GT whose front and rear tracks differ markedly. The three-piece opens up almost complete freedom of profile and finish, with a removable lip that simplifies a later repair. None is superior in absolute terms: the choice follows from your use.

Configure your custom AMG GT wheels

Our configurator starts from an inspiration photo and uses artificial intelligence to produce a render of it applied to your AMG GT. The design is then reworked with the Onyx Forged design office, then 5-axis CNC machined to your car's measurements. Our wheels are designed to JWL/VIA standards. Price and lead time each have their own page: custom forged wheel prices and lead time. Configure your custom wheels or describe your project to contact@onyxforgedwheels.com.
