Custom forged wheels for Mercedes G 63 AMG (G-Class)
The G 63 AMG (G-Class) imposes constraints that no other Mercedes faces: nearly 2.5 tonnes carried by a ladder-frame chassis, a rigid rear axle and a spare wheel hung on the tailgate. Onyx Forged has each set forged from a block of 6061-T6 aluminium, 5-axis CNC machined, to the recorded measurements of your vehicle. You set the diameter, the width and the finish; we calculate the offset and check the permissible load before starting production.
Mercedes-AMG G 63: original wheels, brakes and weight
The figures below come from Mercedes-Benz's documents and from the sources listed below, read on 20 October 2026. They are the standard measurements of the versions named, not a recommendation: before any design, we work out the measurements of your car.
AMG G 63, 2018 model year (pre-redesign W463), US market
| Standard wheels | 9.5 x 20 cast, front and rear [1] |
|---|---|
| Standard tyres | 275/50 R20 on all four wheels [1] |
| Discs (diameter / thickness) | 14.8 / 1.4 in at the front, 13.0 / 0.9 in at the rear [1] |
| Kerb weight | 5,833 lb (≈ 2,646 kg) [1] |
Same width and same tyre on all four wheels: on a G 63, the fifth wheel on the tailgate can be identical to the other four.

An architecture that does not forgive approximation
The G-Class has kept what almost all its competitors have abandoned: a ladder-frame chassis, permanent all-wheel drive, a rigid rear axle. Since the 2018 redesign, only the front axle has moved to independent suspension. For a wheel, this changes everything. The mass to be supported exceeds that of one of the brand's saloons by several hundred kilos, it is carried high, and load transfer in corners puts far more stress on the wheel centre than a lowered chassis does. A wheel designed for a C-Class has no place under a G 63: permissible load, PCD (bolt pattern) and offset are entirely different.
What forging changes on 2.5 tonnes
On a heavy vehicle, the unsprung mass argument is often poorly framed: a few kilos per wheel will not turn an off-roader into a sports car. The gain lies elsewhere. A rigid rear axle already sets a considerable mass against the work of the suspension, and everything taken away from it helps it follow the imperfections of the road instead of suffering them. High-pressure forging of 6061-T6 realigns the structure of the metal in the direction of the stresses and eliminates the porosity of casting. For the same permissible load, the wheel is lighter.
The spare wheel, a fifth wheel
The G-Class tailgate carries an exposed spare wheel, which belongs to the vehicle's silhouette as much as the wings do. Many builds deal with this point as an afterthought, and badly: a set of four forged wheels leaves on the tailgate a fifth original wheel whose design no longer matches anything. We therefore produce this fifth wheel on request, in the same production run and the same finish. It then remains to check that the original cover closes over the new design: a very concave profile or a modified offset can prevent it.
Finishes designed for road use
In France, a G-Class is driven very little off road. It is driven in town, on the motorway, in winter, through road salt. A vehicle of this mass brakes hard and produces a lot of brake dust, while its almost vertical wheel arches expose the wheel face to spray. We therefore steer G 63 owners towards finishes that last rather than towards immediate effect: thick lacquer over a brushed finish, and dark satin that forgives the micro-scratches left by washing. More delicate finishes remain possible, provided you know what maintenance they demand.
Configure your custom G-Class G 63 wheels
Our configurator accepts a simple inspiration photo, a wheel spotted at a show or on a passing vehicle, and uses artificial intelligence to produce a render of it applied to your model. The design is then reworked with the Onyx Forged design office, then 5-axis CNC machined. Our wheels are designed to JWL/VIA standards. Price and lead time each have their own page: custom forged wheel prices and lead time. Configure your custom wheels or write to contact@onyxforgedwheels.com.
