Frequently asked questions: wheels for the Honda Civic Type R (FK8)
What are the original offsets for the wheels of a Honda Civic Type R FK8?
The Swiss vehicle type records of the Type R (FK8) permit an 8.5J x 20 wheel with an offset of 60 and an 8J x 18 wheel with an offset of 55, the same on both axles; those of 2020 add an 8.5J x 19 wheel with an offset of 60. [6, 9]
Which tyres, and which load index, does a Honda Civic Type R FK8 take?
245/30 R20 with a load index of 90, i.e. 600 kg per tyre, on the 20-inch wheel; 235/40 R18 with a load index of 90, then 95 in the 2020 records, i.e. 600 then 690 kg, on the 18-inch wheel; 245/35 R19 with a load index of 93, i.e. 650 kg, on the 19-inch wheel. [6, 9, 11]
What is the load per wheel on a Honda Civic Type R FK8?
Its Swiss vehicle type records give it a permissible load of 1,000 kg on the front axle, i.e. 500 kg per front wheel, and of 800 kg on the rear axle: it is the front, with the engine and the driven wheels, that carries the most. The 245/30 R20 tyre with a load index of 90 carries 600 kg. [6, 9, 11]
What PCD (bolt pattern), centre bore and nuts does a Honda Civic Type R FK8 use?
The PCD is 5x120, the centre bore 64.1 mm, and the wheels are held by M14 x 1.5 nuts: SCC, koleso.ee and the German general operating permits (Allgemeine Betriebserlaubnis) for BBS and MAK wheels, which name the 235 kW Type R, give these measurements. The Honda owner's manual sets the tightening torque of the nuts at 127 N·m on the Type R, compared with 108 N·m on the other Civics. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Which brakes does a Honda Civic Type R FK8 have?
According to the Honda Canada press kit (2017), four-piston aluminium Brembo front calipers, on 350 mm discs at the front and 305 mm discs at the rear: the 18-inch wheel that the Swiss records permit must clear these calipers. [6, 12]
Same fixing measurements
As original equipment, these cars have the same PCD, centre bore, thread and fixing as the Honda Civic Type R (FK8): PCD 5x120, centre bore 64.1 mm, thread M14 x 1.5, fixing: wheel nuts.

Publication rule: a measurement is shown only if a primary source gives it (a manufacturer's document, an official vehicle type record, an original parts catalogue, the maker of the original wheel) without another primary source contradicting it, or if two independent specialist sources agree without a primary source contradicting them. The press and forums do not count. Measurements checked on 20 October 2026 by the Onyx Forged design office.

Custom forged wheels for the Honda Civic Type R (FK8)
- Forged 6061-T6 aluminium
- 5-axis CNC machining
- Designed to JWL/VIA standards
- Fitment worked out for your Honda Civic Type R (FK8)
Civic Type R FK8: 5x120, a 64.1 mm hub, M14 x 1.5 nuts
The Honda Civic Type R FK8, revealed by Honda in March 2017 and produced at Swindon until the plant closed in 2021, uses 5x120 on a 64.1 mm hub, with M14 x 1.5 wheel nuts: SCC, koleso.ee and two German operating permits for wheels (BBS and MAK) that name the 235 kW Type R give these measurements, each cited in the table. The Honda owner's manual sets the tightening torque at 127 N·m on the Type R, compared with 108 N·m on the other Civics: one more reason not to confuse the two.
The permitted fitments: an offset of 60, or of 55
The vehicle type record of the Swiss Federal Roads Office (ASTRA), the document that sets the tyre and wheel combinations a car may carry, permits for the Type R the same wheel on both axles: 8.5J x 20 with an offset of 60, on a 245/30 R20 tyre, or 8J x 18 with an offset of 55, on a 235/40 R18 tyre; the 2020 records add an 8.5J x 19 wheel with an offset of 60, on a 245/35 R19 tyre. The 2017 Honda manual gives the 20-inch wheel and its tyre. These high offsets keep the wheel close to the hub, on a front-wheel-drive car where the front carries the most.
Brakes and load per wheel
Honda specifies four-piston Brembo front calipers and 350 mm front discs: an 18-inch wheel must clear them, and the Onyx Forged design office starts from your calipers. The record gives a permissible load of 1,000 kg on the front axle, i.e. 500 kg per front wheel, and of 800 kg on the rear axle.
What these measurements say about a forged wheel
The offset positions the wheel in the wheel arch: a wider wheel, or a lower offset, brings it closer to the wing. The Onyx Forged design office starts from the measurements on this page, your brakes and your tyres to calculate the width and offset of your wheels, then submits them to you. The offset calculator compares two fitments: it compares, it does not choose the measurement for you.
Roadworthiness test: what is examined
The French roadworthiness test (contrôle technique) examines the wheel without removing it (cracks, deformation, a wheel that protrudes beyond the bodywork) and verifies that the tyre size is one provided for by the manufacturer or accepted as equivalent. Keeping a tyre size from the original fitment, and at least its load index, avoids having to justify it; the details are on the roadworthiness test and registration document page.
What we record before machining
- The exact version, stated on the registration document, and the current diameter of your wheels.
- The braking system, on which the smallest possible diameter depends (wheels and brakes (page in French)).
- The current fitment, axle by axle, and the hub's 64.1 mm centre bore.
Configure your forged wheels for the Honda Civic Type R (FK8)
The Onyx Forged design office works out the measurements of your car from its exact version, stated on the registration document, and shows them to you before machining. Each set is cut from forged 6061-T6 aluminium, machined on a 5-axis CNC centre, as monoblock, two-piece or three-piece wheels; our wheels are designed to JWL/VIA standards. Prices by diameter and the lead time are given on this page, under “What Onyx can make”. Start your configuration or write to contact@onyxforgedwheels.com.
