What are the original offsets for the wheels of a Mégane 4 R.S.?

According to the Swiss vehicle type records, the 8J x 18 wheel has an offset of 48 and the 8.5J x 19 wheel an offset of 54, on both axles. The 2018 Trophy and the Trophy-R have only the 19-inch wheel. [6, 8, 12, 13]

Which tyres, and which load index, does a Mégane 4 R.S. take?

235/40 R18 with load index 95, i.e. 690 kg per tyre, in 18 inches; 245/35 R19 with load index 93, i.e. 650 kg, in 19 inches. These are the combinations in the Swiss vehicle type records, the same on both axles. [6, 8, 14]

What is the load per wheel on a Mégane 4 R.S.?

The 2020 Swiss vehicle type records give it a permissible load of 1,134 kg on the front axle, i.e. 567 kg per front wheel: it is the front, with the engine and the driven wheels, that carries the most. The 245/35 R19 tyre with load index 93 carries 650 kg. [8, 14]

What PCD, centre bore and bolts does a Mégane 4 R.S. use?

Mégane IV R.S.: 5x114.3, a 66.1 mm hub, M12 x 1.5 bolts

The fourth-generation Renault Mégane R.S., unveiled by Renault in September 2017 and produced up to its final series, the Ultime, announced in 2023, is 5x114.3 on a 66.1 mm hub, with M12 x 1.5 wheel bolts: SCC, wheelfitment.eu and koleso.ee give these measurements; hubcentric-rings.com gives a different centre bore, and the discrepancy is flagged in the table. The tightening torque is not published: the databases do not give the same value for the R.S.

Two fitments, in 18 and 19 inches

The Swiss vehicle type records of the Mégane R.S., from October 2017 to June 2022, permit two fitments, the same on both axles: 8J x 18 with an offset of 48 and 235/40 R18 tyres, and 8.5J x 19 with an offset of 54 and 245/35 R19 tyres. The 2018 R.S. Trophy and the Trophy-R have only the 19-inch fitment; from 2020, the 221 kW R.S. and R.S. Trophy have both.

A front-wheel-drive car: the front carries the load

The 2020 record gives a permissible load of 1,134 kg on the front axle, i.e. 567 kg per front wheel. It is this load, and not the kerb weight, that the wheel must withstand, and the tyre must keep at least the load index of the original fitment (reading a tyre (page in French)).

What these measurements say about a forged wheel

The offset positions the wheel in the wheel arch: a wider wheel, or a lower offset, brings it closer to the wing.
