Frequently asked questions: wheels for the Renault Clio IV R.S.
What are the original offsets for the wheels of a Renault Clio IV R.S.?
An offset of 55, on both axles, on the 7.5J x 17 and 7.5J x 18 wheels permitted by its Swiss vehicle type records, on both the R.S. 200 EDC and the R.S. 220 EDC Trophy. The December 2012 record also permitted a 6.5J x 17 wheel with an offset of 47. [5, 6, 8]
Which tyres, and which load index, does a Renault Clio IV R.S. take?
205/45 R17 with load index 88, i.e. 560 kg per tyre, or 205/40 R18 with load index 86, i.e. 530 kg, on both axles. [6, 8, 10]
What is the load per wheel on a Renault Clio IV R.S.?
Its Swiss vehicle type records give it a permissible load of 960 kg on the front axle and 800 kg on the rear axle, i.e. 480 and 400 kg per wheel: on this front-wheel-drive car, the front carries the most. The 205/40 R18 tyre with load index 86 carries 530 kg. [6, 8, 10]
What PCD, centre bore and bolts does a Renault Clio IV R.S. use?
The PCD is 5x114.3, the centre bore 66.1 mm, and the wheels are held by M12 x 1.5 bolts tightened to 105 Nm: wheelfitment.eu, koleso.ee and SCC give these measurements for the R.S. The other Clio IV models are 4x100 on a 60.1 mm hub, according to koleso.ee and SCC: an ordinary Clio wheel does not fit an R.S. [1, 2, 3, 4, 11]
Same fixing measurements
As original equipment, these cars have the same PCD, centre bore, thread and fixing as the Renault Clio IV R.S.: PCD 5x114.3, centre bore 66.1 mm, thread M12 x 1.5, fixing: wheel bolts.
- Alpine A290 first generation (since 2024)
- Renault 5 E-Tech first generation (since 2024)
- Renault Mégane IV R.S. (2017–2023)
Same fixing measurements; original diameters and offsets: see each car's page. The seat of the bolts or nuts, the width of the wheels and brake clearance are not compared here: this comparison is not an opinion on compatibility.

Publication rule: a measurement is shown only if a primary source gives it (a manufacturer's document, an official vehicle type record, an original parts catalogue, the maker of the original wheel) without another primary source contradicting it, or if two independent specialist sources agree without a primary source contradicting them. The press and forums do not count. Measurements checked on 21 October 2026 by the Onyx Forged design office.

Clio IV R.S.: 5x114.3, a 66.1 mm hub, M12 x 1.5 bolts
The Renault Clio IV R.S., in its 147 kW 200 EDC and 162 kW 220 EDC Trophy versions, whose first Swiss vehicle type record dates from December 2012, is 5x114.3 on a 66.1 mm hub, with M12 x 1.5 wheel bolts tightened to 105 Nm: wheelfitment.eu, koleso.ee and SCC give these measurements, each cited in the table. This hub is not that of the other Clio IV models: an ordinary Clio wheel does not fit an R.S., nor the other way round.
17 or 18 inches, an offset of 55
The vehicle type record of the Swiss Federal Roads Office (ASTRA), the document that sets the tyre and wheel combinations a car may carry, permits for the Clio R.S. the same wheel on both axles, with an offset of 55: 7.5J x 17 with 205/45 R17 tyres, or 7.5J x 18 with 205/40 R18 tyres, on both the 200 EDC and the 220 EDC Trophy. The December 2012 record also permitted a 6.5J x 17 wheel with an offset of 47, with 185/50 R17 tyres; those of 2015 and 2016 do not include it.
A front-wheel-drive car: the front carries the most
The record gives a permissible load of 960 kg on the front axle and 800 kg on the rear axle, i.e. 480 and 400 kg per wheel. This is the load the front wheel must withstand, and the tyre must keep at least the load index of the original fitment (reading a tyre (page in French)).
What these measurements say about a forged wheel
The offset positions the wheel in the wheel arch: a wider wheel, or a lower offset, brings it closer to the wing. The Onyx Forged design office starts from the measurements on this page, your brakes and your tyres to calculate the width and offset of your wheels, then submits them to you. The offset calculator compares two fitments: it compares, it does not choose the measurement for you.
Roadworthiness test: what is examined
The French roadworthiness test (contrôle technique) examines the wheel without removing it (cracks, deformation, a wheel that protrudes beyond the bodywork) and verifies that the tyre size is one provided for by the manufacturer or accepted as equivalent. Keeping a tyre size from the original fitment, and at least its load index, avoids having to justify it; the details are on the roadworthiness test and registration page.
What we record before machining
- The exact version, stated on the registration document, and the current diameter of your wheels.
- The braking system, on which the smallest possible diameter depends (wheels and brakes (page in French)).
- The current fitment, axle by axle, and the 66.1 mm hub bore.
Configure your forged wheels for the Renault Clio IV R.S.
The Onyx Forged design office works out the measurements of your car from its exact version, stated on the registration document, and shows them to you before machining. Each set is cut from forged 6061-T6 aluminium, machined on a 5-axis CNC centre, as monoblock, two-piece or three-piece wheels; our wheels are designed to JWL/VIA standards. Prices by diameter and the lead time are given on this page, under “What Onyx can make”. Start your configuration or write to contact@onyxforgedwheels.com.
