Frequently asked questions: wheels for the Renault 5 E-Tech first generation

What are the original offsets for the wheels of a Renault 5 E-Tech?

An offset of 38, on both axles, on the only wheel permitted by its Swiss vehicle type records: 6.5J x 18, at 70, 90 and 110 kW alike. [4, 8, 10]

Which tyres, and which load index, does a Renault 5 E-Tech take?

195/55 R18 with load index 93, i.e. 650 kg per tyre, on both axles, at every power output. [4, 10, 12]

What is the load per wheel on a Renault 5 E-Tech?

The Swiss vehicle type record of the 110 kW version gives it a permissible load of 980 kg on the front axle and 1,000 kg on the rear axle, i.e. 490 and 500 kg per wheel; that of the 70 kW version, 910 and 940 kg, i.e. 455 and 470 kg per wheel. The 195/55 R18 tyre with load index 93 carries 650 kg. [4, 10, 12]

What PCD, centre bore and bolts does a Renault 5 E-Tech use?

The PCD is 5x114.3 and the centre bore 66.1 mm, according to wheelfitment.eu, SCC and hubcentric-rings.com; the wheels are held by M12 x 1.5 bolts, according to wheelfitment.eu and SCC. The tightening torque is not published: wheelfitment.eu and hubcentric-rings.com give two different values for it, and we have not read a Renault manual that settles it. [1, 2, 3]

Same fixing measurements

As original equipment, these cars have the same PCD, centre bore, thread and fixing as the Renault 5 E-Tech first generation: PCD 5x114.3, centre bore 66.1 mm, thread M12 x 1.5, fixing: wheel bolts.

Same fixing measurements; original diameters and offsets: see each car's page. The seat of the bolts or nuts, the width of the wheels and brake clearance are not compared here: this comparison is not an opinion on compatibility.

Publication rule: a measurement is shown only if a primary source gives it (a manufacturer's document, an official vehicle type record, an original parts catalogue, the maker of the original wheel) without another primary source contradicting it, or if two independent specialist sources agree without a primary source contradicting them. The press and forums do not count. Measurements checked on 21 October 2026 by the Onyx Forged design office.

Custom forged wheels for the Renault 5 E-Tech first generation

Renault 5 E-Tech: 5x114.3, a 66.1 mm hub, M12 x 1.5 bolts

The Renault 5 E-Tech electric (type P01), whose first Swiss vehicle type record dates from May 2024, is 5x114.3 on a 66.1 mm hub, with M12 x 1.5 wheel bolts: wheelfitment.eu, SCC and hubcentric-rings.com give the PCD (bolt pattern) and the centre bore, wheelfitment.eu and SCC the bolts, each cited in the table. The tightening torque is not published: wheelfitment.eu and hubcentric-rings.com give two different values for it, and we have not read a Renault manual that settles it. These are the hub measurements of the Clio IV R.S..

A single wheel: 6.5J x 18, an offset of 38

The vehicle type record of the Swiss Federal Roads Office (ASTRA), the document that sets the tyre and wheel combinations a car may carry, permits for the 5 E-Tech a single combination, the same on both axles and for all three power outputs, 70, 90 and 110 kW: a 6.5J x 18 wheel with an offset of 38, with 195/55 R18 tyres. It is a narrow wheel for its diameter: a wider wheel or a lower offset brings it closer to the wing, and the room for the tyre under the body is checked before changing wheels.

An electric front-wheel-drive car: the load per wheel

The record for the 110 kW version gives a permissible load of 980 kg on the front axle and 1,000 kg on the rear axle, i.e. 490 and 500 kg per wheel; that of the 70 kW version, 910 and 940 kg, i.e. 455 and 470 kg per wheel. This is the load the wheel must withstand, and the tyre must keep at least the load index of the original fitment, 93 for the 195/55 R18 (reading a tyre (page in French)); on an electric car, weight and torque also wear the tyres faster (electric car tyres (page in French)).

What these measurements say about a forged wheel

The offset positions the wheel in the wheel arch: a wider wheel, or a lower offset, brings it closer to the wing. The Onyx Forged design office starts from the measurements on this page, your brakes and your tyres to calculate the width and offset of your wheels, then submits them to you. The offset calculator compares two fitments: it compares, it does not choose the measurement for you.

Roadworthiness test: what is examined

The French roadworthiness test (contrôle technique) examines the wheel without removing it (cracks, deformation, a wheel that protrudes beyond the bodywork) and verifies that the tyre size is one provided for by the manufacturer or accepted as equivalent. Keeping a tyre size from the original fitment, and at least its load index, avoids having to justify it; the details are on the roadworthiness test and registration page.

What we record before machining

Configure your forged wheels for the Renault 5 E-Tech

The Onyx Forged design office works out the measurements of your car from its exact version, stated on the registration document, and shows them to you before machining. Each set is cut from forged 6061-T6 aluminium, machined on a 5-axis CNC centre, as monoblock, two-piece or three-piece wheels; our wheels are designed to JWL/VIA standards. Prices by diameter and the lead time are given on this page, under “What Onyx can make”. Start your configuration or write to contact@onyxforgedwheels.com.
