Frequently asked questions: wheels for the Tesla Model 3 first generation
What are the original offsets for the wheels of a 2017 to 2023 Tesla Model 3?
Tesla gives 8.5J wheels with an offset of 40 in 18 inches and in 19 inches. In 20 inches, the workshop manual distinguishes two 8.5J wheels: an offset of 40 with the non-Performance brakes, an offset of 35 with the Performance brakes. [6, 7]
Which tyres do these Model 3 wheels take?
235/45 R18 in 18 inches, 235/40 R19 in 19 inches and 235/35 R20 in 20 inches, at the front as well as at the rear: these are the tyres the workshop manual gives for replacement. Tesla states that the original fitment depends on the model and the market. [6, 8]
What PCD, centre bore and nuts does a Tesla Model 3 use?
The PCD is 5x114.3, the centre bore 64.1 mm and the wheel nuts are M14 x 1.5: SCC, wheelfitment.eu and hubcentric-rings.com give these measurements. The tightening torque is 175 Nm, according to Tesla. [1, 2, 3, 6, 7]
Does the pre-2024 Model 3 have the same wheels as the Highland?
Not exactly. For the 18 and 19-inch wheels, 8.5J in both cases, Tesla gives an offset of 40 in its 2017-2023 manuals and 38 in the Highland's workshop manual. [6, 7, 9]
Same fixing measurements
As original equipment, these cars have the same PCD, centre bore, thread and fixing as the Tesla Model 3 first generation: PCD 5x114.3, centre bore 64.1 mm, thread M14 x 1.5, fixing: wheel nuts.

Publication rule: a measurement is shown only if a primary source gives it (a manufacturer's document, an official vehicle type record, an original parts catalogue, the maker of the original wheel) without another primary source contradicting it, or if two independent specialist sources agree without a primary source contradicting them. The press and forums do not count. Measurements checked on 15 October 2026 by the Onyx Forged design office.

Custom forged wheels for the Tesla Model 3 first generation
- Forged 6061-T6 aluminium
- 5-axis CNC machining
- Designed to JWL/VIA standards
- Fitment worked out for your Tesla Model 3 first generation
Model 3 from 2017 to 2023: one hub, four fitments
The first-generation Tesla Model 3, produced from 2017 to 2023 according to Tesla's manuals, uses 5x114.3, on a 64.1 mm hub, with M14 x 1.5 wheel nuts: several independent specialist sources give the PCD (bolt pattern) and the centre bore, each cited in the table. Tesla fixes the wheels with nuts tightened to 175 Nm. The seat of the nuts is given by only one source: it is not published here.
The fitments Tesla gives, from 18 to 20 inches
Tesla's owner's manual and workshop manual for this period give 8.5J wheels on all four corners: in 18 inches and in 19 inches with an offset of 40; in 20 inches with an offset of 40, or 35 when the car has the Performance brakes. The tyres are those in the workshop manual's replacement tyre table: 235/45 R18, 235/40 R19 and 235/35 R20, at the front as well as at the rear. Tesla does not publish which trim gets which diameter, and states that the original fitment depends on the model and the market: it is your car that tells you.
And the facelifted Model 3?
The facelifted Model 3 has its own page, Model 3 Highland. For the same 18 and 19-inch wheels, 8.5J in both cases, Tesla gives an offset of 38 there instead of 40: a wheel from one is therefore not fitted blind to the other.
What we record before machining
- The exact version, stated on the registration document, and the current diameter of your wheels.
- The braking system, on which the smallest possible diameter depends: the Performance brake already changes the offset of the 20-inch wheels.
- The current fitment, axle by axle, and the hub's 64.1 mm centre bore.
Configure your forged wheels for the Tesla Model 3 (2017-2023)
The Onyx Forged design office works out the measurements of your car from its exact version, stated on the registration document, and shows them to you before machining. Each set is cut from forged 6061-T6 aluminium, machined on a 5-axis CNC centre, as monoblock, two-piece or three-piece wheels; our wheels are designed to JWL/VIA standards. Prices by diameter and the lead time are given on this page, under “What Onyx can make”. Start your configuration or write to contact@onyxforgedwheels.com.
