Frequently asked questions: wheels for the Tesla Model 3 Highland

What is the wheel tightening torque on a facelifted Tesla Model 3 (Highland)?

175 Nm, according to Tesla's workshop manual. [5, 6]

What are the original fitments of the facelifted Model 3 (Highland)?

18 inches in 8.5J ET 38 (235/45 R18), 19 inches in 8.5J ET 38 (235/40 R19), and a staggered 20-inch fitment: 9J ET 34 and 235/35 R20 at the front, 10J ET 45 and 275/30 R20 at the rear. Tesla does not publish which trim gets which diameter. [6, 7, 8]

Does the steel wheel fit every facelifted Model 3 (Highland)?

No. Tesla reserves it for the Model 3 Standard and warns that it can damage the suspension of a Model 3 Premium or Performance. [6]

Does the Model 3 Standard have pressure sensors in its wheels?

No. Tesla fits it with indirect monitoring (iTPMS) and publishes a procedure for fitting sensors in the wheels. [9]

Same fixing measurements

As original equipment, these cars have the same PCD, centre bore, thread and fixing as the Tesla Model 3 Highland: PCD 5x114.3, centre bore 64.1 mm, thread M14 x 1.5, fixing: wheel nuts.

Same fixing measurements; original diameters and offsets: see each car's page. The seat of the bolts or nuts, the width of the wheels and brake clearance are not compared here: this comparison is not an opinion on compatibility.

Publication rule: a measurement is shown only if a primary source gives it (a manufacturer's document, an official vehicle type record, an original parts catalogue, the maker of the original wheel) without another primary source contradicting it, or if two independent specialist sources agree without a primary source contradicting them. The press and forums do not count. Measurements checked on 10 October 2026 by the Onyx Forged design office.

Model 3 Highland: what changes, and what does not

The facelifted Model 3, known as the Highland (model years 2024 onwards in Tesla's manuals), uses 5x114.3, on a 64.1 mm hub, with an M14 x 1.5 thread: specialist sources that agree give these figures, each cited in the table. Tesla's workshop manual, for its part, specifies wheel nuts tightened to 175 Nm. The PCD (bolt pattern), centre bore and thread are those of the Model Y. The seat of its nuts, on the other hand, is not published here: only one source gives it, and our rule requires a primary source or two that agree. We check it for your car.

Three original diameters, and staggered fitments

For the Highland, Tesla lists an 18-inch wheel in 8.5J ET 38 with 235/45 R18 tyres, a 19-inch wheel in 8.5J ET 38 with 235/40 R19 tyres, and staggered fitments, in 19 as well as 20 inches: 9J ET 34 at the front, 10J ET 45 at the rear, in 235/35 R20 and 275/30 R20 for the 20-inch. Tesla does not publish which trim gets which diameter: it is your car that tells you. On a staggered fitment, a front wheel and a rear wheel cannot be swapped.

The steel wheel of the Model 3 Standard

The Standard version gets an 18-inch steel wheel, 8.5J ET 38 in 235/45 R18. Tesla reserves it for this version and warns that it can damage the suspension of a Model 3 Premium or Performance. Nor does the Standard have pressure sensors in its wheels: Tesla fits it with indirect monitoring and publishes a procedure for fitting some. If your car has them, the wheel must take the sensor at the valve position.

Range and weight: sourced figures, or none

On an electric car, wheel size has a cost in range. Official US figures give the order of magnitude on another car from the brand: on the EPA cycle, the 2025 Model S Plaid loses 10.3% of its range between its 19-inch and 21-inch wheels (fueleconomy.gov, comparison of the 2025 Model S Plaid and Model X Plaid), a difference that combines diameter, tyre, weight and aerodynamics. We have not yet recorded a sourced figure specific to the Model 3 Highland, so we do not give one. Nor do we state a wheel weight: a forged wheel's weight depends on its spokes, its width and its construction, and we only publish what has been weighed.

Configure your forged wheels for the Model 3 Highland

The Onyx Forged design office works out the measurements of your car from its exact version, stated on the registration document, and shows them to you before machining. Each set is cut from forged 6061-T6 aluminium, machined on a 5-axis CNC centre, as monoblock, two-piece or three-piece wheels; our wheels are designed to JWL/VIA standards. Prices by diameter and the lead time are given on this page, under “What Onyx can make”. Start your configuration or write to contact@onyxforgedwheels.com.
