What is the load per wheel on an Audi S5 B9?
The Swiss vehicle type record of the 3.0 TFSI Coupé gives it a permissible load of 1,145 kg on the front axle and 1,085 kg on the rear axle, i.e. 572.5 and 542.5 kg per wheel; the heavier Cabriolet carries 1,240 kg at the rear, i.e. 620 kg per wheel. What PCD, centre bore and bolts does an Audi S5 B9 use?
The PCD is 5x112, the centre bore 66.5 mm, and the wheels are held by M14 x 1.5 bolts tightened to 120 Nm: wheelfitment.eu, koleso.ee and SCC give these measurements; hubcentric-rings.com, on its A5 page, gives the same PCD and the same torque but a different centre bore, which we do not use. S5 B9: 5x112, a 66.5 mm hub, M14 x 1.5 bolts
The B9-generation Audi S5, whose first Swiss vehicle type record dates from July 2016 for the Coupé, October 2016 for the Sportback and December 2016 for the Cabriolet, as the 260 kW 3.0 TFSI then, as a Coupé and a Sportback, as the 255 and 251 kW TDI, is 5x112 on a 66.5 mm hub, with M14 x 1.5 wheel bolts tightened to 120 Nm: wheelfitment.eu, koleso.ee and SCC give these measurements, each cited in the table. hubcentric-rings.com, on its A5 page, gives the same PCD (bolt pattern) and the same torque, but a centre bore a tenth of a millimetre larger, which we do not use. The Swiss records refer to this generation as type B8.
From 18 to 20 inches, the same wheel on both axles
The vehicle type record of the Swiss Federal Roads Office (ASTRA), the document that sets the tyre and wheel combinations a car may carry, permits for the S5 the same wheel at the front and at the rear: 8.5J x 18 with an offset of 29, on 245/40 R18 tyres; 8.5J x 19 with an offset of 32, on 255/35 R19 tyres; 9J x 20 with an offset of 34, on 265/30 R20 tyres, in the records from June 2017 onwards. For winter, it permits 8J x 18 with an offset of 31. These offsets are lower than those of the S4 B9: an S4 wheel is not fitted to an S5 without checking its position in the wheel arch.
Load per wheel
The record for the 3.0 TFSI Coupé gives a permissible load of 1,145 kg on the front axle and 1,085 kg on the rear axle, i.e. 572.5 and 542.5 kg per wheel; the heavier Cabriolet carries 1,240 kg at the rear, i.e. 620 kg per wheel. That is the load the wheel must carry, and the tyre must keep at least the load index of the original fitment, 96 in 255/35 R19 (reading a tyre (page in French)).
What these measurements say about a forged wheel
The offset positions the wheel in the wheel arch: a wider wheel, or a lower offset, brings it closer to the wing. Roadworthiness test: what is examined
The French roadworthiness test (contrôle technique) examines the wheel without removing it (cracks, deformation, a wheel that protrudes beyond the bodywork) and verifies that the tyre size is one provided for by the manufacturer or accepted as equivalent. Keeping a tyre size from the original fitment, and at least its load index, avoids having to justify it; the details are on the roadworthiness test and registration document page.
