What the C8 asks of its wheels

The RS6 C8 is a 600 PS, 800 Nm estate, powered by a twin-turbo 4.0 TFSI V8 assisted by a 48-volt system and quoted at 2,075 kg unladen under the DIN standard. Since 2023, the performance version has raised the power to 630 PS. These figures describe what a wheel takes here: a high mass, torque available very low in the rev range, four-wheel drive, and a car that is loaded further still (luggage, passengers, sometimes a trailer). An RS6 is not a weekend sports car: it is an everyday car, and its wheels work accordingly.

Here, the permissible load per wheel is not a selling point

On this car, the permissible load counts as much as the measurements. The original 21-inch fitment is 275/35 ZR21, load index 103, i.e. 875 kg per tyre; the 22-inch fitment in 285/30 ZR22 is load index 101, i.e. 825 kg. These values are not decorative: they show the level to which the manufacturer sized the running gear, and a wheel is not calculated below it. So, before a single line is drawn, we set a permissible load per wheel for your version. It determines the minimum thickness of the wheel centre and the acceptable number of spokes. It is an input constraint, not a variable to adjust for looks.

The measurements of the C8

The PCD (bolt pattern) is 5x112 and the fixing is by M14 x 1.5 bolts. The standard fitment is 10.5J x 21, with 275/35 R21 tyres. Audi publishes the offset only for its original complete winter wheels: 8.5J x 21 ET 19 with 245/40 R21, and 10.5J x 22 ET 19 with 285/30 R22. These widths only fit thanks to the widened wings specific to the RS6, which the A6 and S6 do not have: this is one of the reasons why a wheel advertised “for A6 C8” has no business on an RS6.

21 or 22 inches: what the diameter commits you to

The 21-inch wheel keeps more sidewall than the 22. The 22-inch wheel brings the sidewall height down to a 30 profile under a two-tonne car: the lip becomes the first part to meet a pothole, and a cast wheel can only respond by adding material, and therefore weight, in the worst place. High-pressure forging of 6061-T6 orients the grain of the aluminium and makes it possible to reach the same permissible load with thinner sections. The gain shows in unsprung mass, not in a power figure.
