Frequently asked questions: wheels for the BMW i4 M50 (G26)

What are the original offsets for the wheels of a BMW i4 M50?

A staggered fitment, according to its Swiss vehicle type records: 8.5J with an offset of 35 at the front (36 in 18 inches) and 9J with an offset of 42 at the rear, in 18, 19 and 20 inches; in 20 inches, a second combination permits a 10J rear wheel with an offset of 39, on a 285/30 R20 tyre. [6, 7, 8, 9]

Which tyres, and which load index, does a BMW i4 M50 take?

In 20 inches, 245/35 R20 with load index 95 at the front, i.e. 690 kg per tyre, and 255/35 R20 with load index 100 at the rear, i.e. 800 kg; in 19 inches, 245/40 R19 with load index 98 and 255/40 R19 with load index 100; in 18 inches, 245/45 R18 with load index 100 and 255/45 R18 with load index 103, i.e. 875 kg. These are the combinations in its Swiss vehicle type records. [6, 9, 10]

What is the load per wheel on a BMW i4 M50?

Its Swiss vehicle type records give it a permissible load of 1,270 kg on the front axle and 1,550 kg on the rear axle, i.e. 635 and 775 kg per wheel, for a kerb weight of 2,290 to 2,387 kg: it is the rear that carries the most. The 285/30 R20 rear tyre with load index 99 that the record permits carries 775 kg, the exact load of one rear wheel; the 255/35 R20 with load index 100, 800 kg. [6, 7, 8, 9, 10]

What PCD, centre bore and bolts does a BMW i4 M50 use?

The PCD is 5x112, the centre bore 66.6 mm, and the wheels are held by M14 x 1.25 bolts with a 60° conical seat: SCC, wheelfitment.eu, koleso.ee and the expert report on an Alcar wheel that names the i4 M50 give these measurements. These sources give a tightening torque of 140 Nm; no BMW document we have read confirms it, so it is not published in the table. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Which brakes does a BMW i4 M50 have?

According to BMW's technical data, four-piston fixed calipers on ventilated discs at the front and a single-piston floating caliper at the rear; the 2021 press kit presents this M Sport braking system as standard equipment on the i4 M50. BMW gives 245/45 R18 and 255/45 R18 tyres on 8.5J and 9J x 18 wheels as the base fitment: the 18-inch wheel that the Swiss record permits clears these brakes. [6, 11, 12, 13]

Same fixing measurements

As original equipment, these cars have the same PCD, centre bore, thread and fixing as the BMW i4 M50 (G26): PCD 5x112, centre bore 66.6 mm, thread M14 x 1.25, fixing: wheel bolts.

Same fixing measurements; original diameters and offsets: see each car's page. The seat of the bolts or nuts, the width of the wheels and brake clearance are not compared here: this comparison is not an opinion on compatibility.

The press and forums do not count. Measurements checked on 20 October 2026 by the Onyx Forged design office.

Custom forged wheels for the BMW i4 M50 (G26)

  • Forged 6061-T6 aluminium
  • 5-axis CNC machining
  • Designed to JWL/VIA standards
  • Fitment worked out for your BMW i4 M50 (G26)

i4 M50: 5x112, a 66.6 mm hub, M14 x 1.25 bolts

The BMW i4 M50 (G26), a 400 kW dual-motor electric car launched in November 2021 and replaced at the top of the range by the i4 M60 from July 2025, is 5x112 on a 66.6 mm hub, with M14 x 1.25 wheel bolts that have a 60° conical seat: SCC, wheelfitment.eu, koleso.ee and the expert report on an Alcar wheel that names the i4 M50 give these measurements, each cited in the table. These sources give a tightening torque of 140 Nm, which no BMW document we have read confirms: the table leaves it blank.

A staggered fitment, from 18 to 20 inches

The vehicle type record of the Swiss Federal Roads Office (ASTRA), the document that sets the tyre and wheel combinations a car may carry, permits for the i4 M50 a staggered fitment: 8.5J with an offset of 35 at the front (36 in 18 inches) and 9J with an offset of 42 at the rear, in 18 inches (245/45 R18 and 255/45 R18), in 19 inches (245/40 R19 and 255/40 R19) and in 20 inches (245/35 R20 and 255/35 R20). In 20 inches, a second combination permits a 10J rear wheel with an offset of 39, on a 285/30 R20 tyre, with a 255/35 R20 at the front. For winter, the record permits the same wheel on both axles: 8.5J x 18 with an offset of 36, on 245/45 R18 tyres.

M Sport brakes

BMW's technical data give the i4 M50 four-piston fixed calipers at the front and a single-piston floating caliper at the rear, on ventilated discs; the 2021 press kit presents this M Sport braking system as standard equipment. Its base fitment is 18 inches, 8.5J at the front and 9J at the rear: the Onyx Forged design office starts from your calipers.

What a heavy, powerful electric car changes

Its records give the i4 M50 a kerb weight of 2,290 to 2,387 kg and a permissible load of 1,550 kg on the rear axle, i.e. 775 kg per rear wheel, compared with 1,270 kg at the front: it is the rear that carries the most. The 285/30 R20 rear tyre with load index 99 that the record permits carries 775 kg, the exact load of one rear wheel. The torque, available from the first turn of the wheel, and the weight wear tyres faster than on a combustion-engined car of the same power; the tyre also has a bearing on cabin noise and range. A tyre marked HL (High Load) carries more at the same size. The guide electric car tyres: wear, HL index, noise and range (page in French) explains what each choice changes, and the guide wheels for a heavy car: the load per wheel (page in French) how to read the load the wheel must carry.

What these measurements say about a forged wheel

The offset positions the wheel in the wheel arch: a wider wheel, or a lower offset, brings it closer to the wing. The Onyx Forged design office starts from the measurements on this page, your brakes and your tyres to calculate the width and offset of your wheels, then submits them to you. The offset calculator compares two fitments: it compares, it does not choose the measurement for you.

Roadworthiness test: what is examined

The French roadworthiness test (contrôle technique) examines the wheel without removing it (cracks, deformation, a wheel that protrudes beyond the bodywork) and verifies that the tyre size is one provided for by the manufacturer or accepted as equivalent. Keeping a tyre size from the original fitment, and at least its load index, avoids having to justify it; the details are on the roadworthiness test and registration page.
