Frequently asked questions: wheels for the Porsche 968 coupé and convertible
What are the original fitments for a Porsche 968?
In 16 inches, 7J at the front and 8J at the rear, with 205/55 ZR16 and 225/50 ZR16 tyres, with an offset of 52.3 or 55 at the front and 52.3 or 52 at the rear depending on the wheel; in 17 inches, 7.5J ET 65 and 9J ET 55, with 225/45 ZR17 and 255/40 ZR17. The 968 Turbo S takes 8J ET 53 and 10J ET 65 in 18 inches, with 235/40 ZR18 and 285/30 ZR18. [4]
Does the 17-inch fitment with 9.5J at the rear go on a 968 convertible?
No: Porsche reserves the 8J ET 52 and 9.5J ET 68 fitment for the coupé, with a 17 mm spacer on each rear wheel. [4]
What is the wheel tightening torque on a Porsche 968?
130 Nm, according to Porsche's bulletin on permitted tyres, wheels and spacers; SCC gives the same value. [1, 4]
What PCD (bolt pattern) and centre bore does a Porsche 968 have?
5x130 and 71.6 mm, with M14 x 1.5 wheel nuts: SCC, wheelfitment.eu and ThreePiece.us give these measurements. [1, 2, 3]
Same fixing measurements
As original equipment, these cars have the same PCD, centre bore, thread and fixing as the Porsche 968 coupé and convertible: PCD 5x130, centre bore 71.6 mm, thread M14 x 1.5, fixing: wheel nuts.
- Porsche 911 964 (1989–1994)
- Porsche 911 993 (1994–1998)
- Porsche 911 G-model (1974–1989)
- Porsche 944 second series (1987–1991)
- Porsche 944 first series (1982–1986)
Same fixing measurements; original diameters and offsets: see each car's page. The seat of the bolts or nuts, the width of the wheels and brake clearance are not compared here: this comparison is not an opinion on compatibility.

Publication rule: a measurement is shown only if a primary source gives it (a manufacturer's document, an official vehicle type record, an original parts catalogue, the maker of the original wheel) without another primary source contradicting it, or if two independent specialist sources agree without a primary source contradicting them. The press and forums do not count. Measurements checked on 20 October 2026 by the Onyx Forged design office.

Custom forged wheels for the Porsche 968 coupé and convertible
- Forged 6061-T6 aluminium
- 5-axis CNC machining
- Designed to JWL/VIA standards
- Fitment worked out for your Porsche 968 coupé and convertible
968: 5x130 on a 71.6 mm hub
The Porsche 968, from 1991 to 1995, uses 5x130 on a 71.6 mm hub, with M14 x 1.5 wheel nuts: SCC, wheelfitment.eu and ThreePiece.us give these measurements, each cited in the table. Porsche sets the wheel tightening torque at 130 Nm.
The fitments Porsche lists, from 16 to 18 inches
Without the sports chassis, the 968 is listed in 16 inches, 7J at the front and 8J at the rear, with 205/55 ZR16 and 225/50 ZR16 tyres, with two possible offsets for each wheel (52.3 or 55 at the front, 52.3 or 52 at the rear): the cells stay empty. In 17 inches, the 968 of model years 1992 to 1995 and the CS take 7.5J ET 65 and 9J ET 55, with 225/45 ZR17 and 255/40 ZR17 tyres; the coupé also has an 8J ET 52 and 9.5J ET 68 fitment, with a 17 mm spacer on each rear wheel. The Turbo S takes 8J ET 53 and 10J ET 65 in 18 inches, with 235/40 ZR18 and 285/30 ZR18. The bulletin does not say which fitment a given car had on delivery.
The period look, to your measurements
A custom forged wheel can keep what gives a car of this period its look: a flat or shallow face, wide spokes, a polished, brushed or painted finish. What is not chosen by eye is the width and the offset: they depend on the car, its wings and its brakes, and it is the Onyx Forged design office that works them out for your car, then submits them to you.
A modern classic on forged wheels: what we check
- The roadworthiness test. The French roadworthiness test (contrôle technique) examines the wheel without removing it (cracks, deformation, a wheel that sticks out beyond the bodywork) and checks that the tyre size is provided for by the manufacturer or accepted as equivalent; it neither validates nor rejects a modification, which is a matter for vehicle approval (réception) and the registration document (roadworthiness test and registration document). The table gives tyre sizes that Porsche lists, with their source.
- Tyres for a classic. Porsche lists only specific tyre makes and types, marked with an N code (N0, N1, N2…) on the sidewall, and asks for the same type, the same speed rating and the same code on all four wheels.
- A widened body. The 9.5J rear fitment is listed only for the coupé, and with a spacer; on a non-catalogue widened body, the design office starts, if needed, from a photo of the fitted wheel.
- Bigger brakes. Calipers larger than the car's own change the minimum wheel diameter and the clearance behind the spokes: we start from the caliper fitted, not the one in the catalogue, if needed from a photo of the fitted wheel.
And its predecessor?
The 944 from 1987 to 1991, which has the same hub, has its own page.
