Frequently asked questions: wheels for the Porsche 911 964
What are the original offsets of the wheels of a Porsche 964?
In 16 inches, for the Carrera 2 and the Carrera 4, Porsche gives 6J wheels at the front and 8J wheels at the rear, with an offset of 52 or 52.3 depending on the wheel. In 17 inches, the Carrera RS and the Turbo take 7J ET 55 at the front and 9J ET 55 at the rear (the Turbo with the modifications the bulletin requires); the Speedster and the RS America, 7J ET 55 and 8J ET 52. [6]
Can 17-inch wheels be fitted to a 964 Carrera 2 or Carrera 4?
On the naturally aspirated narrow-body 964s, Porsche's bulletin lists them only for the Carrera RS, the Speedster and the RS America, with restricted steering lock and a check of the front wheel-arch lips. On a narrow-body Carrera 2 or Carrera 4, it lists only 16 inches; the “Turbo-look” Cabriolets have the Turbo's 17-inch fitments. [6]
What is the wheel tightening torque on a Porsche 964?
130 Nm, according to Porsche's bulletin on permitted tyres, wheels and spacers; wheelfitment.eu gives the same value. [5, 6]
What PCD, centre bore and fixings does a Porsche 964 have?
5x130 and 71.6 mm, with M14 x 1.5 wheel nuts, according to SCC and ThreePiece.us. wheelfitment.eu gives bolts: we go with the majority value, and the Onyx Forged design office checks it for your car, from its registration document or its VIN and, if needed, a photo of the fitted wheel. [1, 2, 4, 5]
Same fixing measurements
As original equipment, these cars have the same PCD, centre bore, thread and fixing as the Porsche 911 964: PCD 5x130, centre bore 71.6 mm, thread M14 x 1.5, fixing: wheel nuts.
- Porsche 944 second series (1987–1991)
- Porsche 944 first series (1982–1986)
- Porsche 968 coupé and convertible (1991–1995)
Same fixing measurements; original diameters and offsets: see each car's page. The seat of the bolts or nuts, the width of the wheels and brake clearance are not compared here: this comparison is not an opinion on compatibility.

Publication rule: a measurement is shown only if a primary source gives it (a manufacturer's document, an official vehicle type record, an original parts catalogue, the maker of the original wheel) without another primary source contradicting it, or if two independent specialist sources agree without a primary source contradicting them. The press and forums do not count. Measurements checked on 20 October 2026 by the Onyx Forged design office.

Custom forged wheels for the Porsche 911 964
- Forged 6061-T6 aluminium
- 5-axis CNC machining
- Designed to JWL/VIA standards
- Fitment worked out for your Porsche 911 964
964: 5x130 on a 71.6 mm hub
The 964-generation Porsche 911, from 1989 to 1994, uses 5x130 on a 71.6 mm hub, with M14 x 1.5 wheel nuts: SCC and ThreePiece.us give nuts, wheelfitment.eu bolts; we go with the majority value, and the Onyx Forged design office checks it for your car. Porsche sets the wheel tightening torque at 130 Nm.
The fitments Porsche lists, from 16 to 18 inches
For the narrow-body Carrera 2 and Carrera 4, Porsche's bulletin lists only 16 inches: 6J at the front and 8J at the rear, with 205/55 ZR16 and 225/50 ZR16 tyres, with an offset of 52 or 52.3 depending on the wheel. Two offsets for the same wheel do not fit in one cell: those cells stay empty. In 17 inches, the Carrera RS takes 7J ET 55 and 9J ET 55, the Speedster and the RS America 7J ET 55 and 8J ET 52, with restricted steering lock and a check of the front wheel-arch lips. The Turbo and the “Turbo-look” Cabriolets have their own fitments, with the modifications the bulletin requires, up to the 18-inch fitment of the Turbo 3.6. The bulletin does not say which fitment a given car had on delivery.
The period look, to your measurements
A custom forged wheel can keep what gives a car of this period its look: a flat or shallow face, wide spokes, a polished, brushed or painted finish. What is not chosen by eye is the width and the offset: they depend on the car, its wings and its brakes, and it is the Onyx Forged design office that works them out for your car, then submits them to you.
A modern classic on forged wheels: what we check
- The roadworthiness test. The French roadworthiness test (contrôle technique) examines the wheel without removing it (cracks, deformation, a wheel that sticks out beyond the bodywork) and checks that the tyre size is provided for by the manufacturer or accepted as equivalent; it neither validates nor rejects a modification, which is a matter for vehicle approval (réception) and the registration document (roadworthiness test and registration). The table gives tyre sizes that Porsche lists, with their source.
- Tyres for a classic. Porsche lists only specific tyre makes and types, marked with an N code (N0, N1, N2…) on the sidewall, and asks for the same type, the same speed rating and the same code on all four wheels.
- A widened body. The “Turbo-look” Cabriolets and the Turbo have separate fitments, wider at the rear: on them, a 9.5J x 17 rear wheel requires a 17 mm spacer. On a non-catalogue widened body, the design office starts, if needed, from a photo of the fitted wheel.
- Bigger brakes. Calipers larger than the car's own change the minimum wheel diameter and the clearance behind the spokes: we start from the caliper fitted, not the one in the catalogue, if needed from a photo of the fitted wheel.
And the other air-cooled 911s?
The 911 G-model and the 993 each have their own page.
