Publication rule: a measurement is shown only if a primary source gives it (a manufacturer's document, an official vehicle type record, an original parts catalogue, the maker of the original wheel) without another primary source contradicting it, or if two independent specialist sources agree without a primary source contradicting them. The press and forums do not count. Measurements checked on 20 October 2026 by the Onyx Forged design office.

996: 5x130 and wheel bolts
The 996-generation Porsche 911, from 1998 to 2005, uses 5x130 on a 71.6 mm hub, and is fixed with M14 x 1.5 wheel bolts, tightened to 130 Nm according to Porsche's bulletins. SCC, wheelfitment.eu, hubcentric-rings.com and ThreePiece.us give the 71.6 mm centre bore; wheel-sizes.com gives 71.5 mm: the discrepancy is flagged in the table, and the Onyx Forged design office checks the hub.
The fitments Porsche lists, in 17 and 18 inches
On the Carrera, the Carrera 4 and the Targa, Porsche lists 7J ET 55 at the front and 9J ET 55 at the rear in 17 inches, with 205/50 ZR17 and 255/40 ZR17 tyres. In 18 inches, the 7.5J ET 50 and 10J ET 65 fitment, with 225/40 ZR18 and 265/35 ZR18, is reserved for cars up to model year 2001. The Turbo takes 8J ET 50 and 10J ET 65, with 225/40 ZR18 and 285/30 ZR18. With a 5 mm spacer, Porsche requires the longer bolts of the 911 GT3. The bulletin does not say which fitment a given car had on delivery.
The period look, to your measurements
A custom forged wheel can keep what gives a car of this period its look: a flat or shallow face, wide spokes, a polished, brushed or painted finish. What is not chosen by eye is the width and the offset: they depend on the car, its wings and its brakes, and it is the Onyx Forged design office that works them out for your car, then submits them to you.
A modern classic on forged wheels: what we check
- The roadworthiness test. The French roadworthiness test (contrôle technique) examines the wheel without removing it (cracks, deformation, a wheel that sticks out beyond the bodywork) and checks that the tyre size is provided for by the manufacturer or accepted as equivalent; it neither validates nor rejects a modification, which is a matter for vehicle approval (réception) and the registration document (roadworthiness test and registration). The table gives tyre sizes that Porsche lists, with their source.
- Tyres for a classic. Porsche lists only specific tyre makes and types, marked with an N code (N0, N1, N2…) on the sidewall, and asks for the same type, the same speed rating and the same code on all four wheels.
- A widened body. The Turbo has the wide body and its own fitment; some 11J rear fitments require a 17 mm spacer. On a non-catalogue widened body, the design office starts, if needed, from a photo of the fitted wheel.
- Bigger brakes. Calipers larger than the car's own change the minimum wheel diameter and the clearance behind the spokes: we start from the caliper fitted, not the one in the catalogue, if needed from a photo of the fitted wheel.
And the previous generation?
The 993, the last air-cooled 911, has its own page; it is fixed with nuts, this one with bolts.
