Frequently asked questions: wheels for the Porsche 911 993
What are the original fitments of a Porsche 993 Carrera?
In 16 inches, 7J ET 55 at the front and 9J ET 70 at the rear, with 205/55 ZR16 and 245/45 ZR16 tyres; in 17 inches, 7J ET 55 and 9J ET 55, with 205/50 ZR17 and 255/40 ZR17, according to Porsche's bulletin on permitted tyres and wheels. [5]
Which wheels for a 993 Turbo, Carrera S or Carrera 4S?
Porsche lists, in 18 inches, an 8J ET 52 wheel at the front and a 10J ET 40 wheel at the rear, with 225/40 ZR18 and 285/30 ZR18 tyres. It also lists, at the rear, a 10J ET 65 wheel with a 25 mm spacer on each wheel. [5]
Does a 993 Targa accept 18-inch wheels?
Not according to Porsche bulletin 62/20: its 18-inch fitments for the Carrera exclude the Targa, whatever the model year, and the Cabriolet before model year 1996. [5]
What tightening torque and which fixings are used for the wheels of a 993?
130 Nm, according to SCC and wheelfitment.eu, on M14 x 1.5 nuts according to SCC and ThreePiece.us; Porsche's 993 bulletin does not give the torque. [2, 3, 4]
Same fixing measurements
As original equipment, these cars have the same PCD, centre bore, thread and fixing as the Porsche 911 993: PCD 5x130, centre bore 71.6 mm, thread M14 x 1.5, fixing: wheel nuts.
- Porsche 944 second series (1987–1991)
- Porsche 944 first series (1982–1986)
- Porsche 968 coupé and convertible (1991–1995)
Same fixing measurements; original diameters and offsets: see each car's page. The seat of the bolts or nuts, the width of the wheels and brake clearance are not compared here: this comparison is not an opinion on compatibility.

Publication rule: a measurement is shown only if a primary source gives it (a manufacturer's document, an official vehicle type record, an original parts catalogue, the maker of the original wheel) without another primary source contradicting it, or if two independent specialist sources agree without a primary source contradicting them. The press and forums do not count. Measurements checked on 20 October 2026 by the Onyx Forged design office.

993: the last air-cooled 911
The 993-generation Porsche 911, from 1994 to 1998, uses 5x130 on a 71.6 mm hub, with M14 x 1.5 wheel nuts: SCC and ThreePiece.us give nuts, wheelfitment.eu bolts; we go with the majority value, and the Onyx Forged design office checks it for your car. The tightening torque, 130 Nm, comes from SCC and wheelfitment.eu: Porsche's 993 bulletin does not give it.
The fitments Porsche lists, from 16 to 18 inches
On the Carrera, the Carrera 4 and the Targa, Porsche lists 7J ET 55 at the front and 9J ET 70 at the rear in 16 inches, with 205/55 ZR16 and 245/45 ZR16 tyres, and 7J ET 55 and 9J ET 55 in 17 inches, with 205/50 ZR17 and 255/40 ZR17. The Turbo, the Carrera S and the Carrera 4S have 8J ET 52 and 10J ET 40 in 18 inches, with 225/40 ZR18 and 285/30 ZR18. The Carrera's 18-inch fitments exclude the Targa, and the Cabriolet before model year 1996. The bulletin does not say which fitment a given car had on delivery.
The period look, to your measurements
A custom forged wheel can keep what gives a car of this period its look: a flat or shallow face, wide spokes, a polished, brushed or painted finish. What is not chosen by eye is the width and the offset: they depend on the car, its wings and its brakes, and it is the Onyx Forged design office that works them out for your car, then submits them to you.
A modern classic on forged wheels: what we check
- The roadworthiness test. The French roadworthiness test (contrôle technique) examines the wheel without removing it (cracks, deformation, a wheel that sticks out beyond the bodywork) and checks that the tyre size is provided for by the manufacturer or accepted as equivalent; it neither validates nor rejects a modification, which is a matter for vehicle approval (réception) and the registration document (roadworthiness test and registration). The table gives tyre sizes that Porsche lists, with their source.
- Tyres for a classic. Porsche lists only specific tyre makes and types, marked with an N code (N0, N1, N2…) on the sidewall, and asks for the same type, the same speed rating and the same code on all four wheels.
- A widened body. The Turbo, the Carrera S and the Carrera 4S have the wide body and 10J rear wheels; some of their fitments require a 25 mm spacer. On a non-catalogue widened body, the design office starts, if needed, from a photo of the fitted wheel.
- Bigger brakes. Calipers larger than the car's own change the minimum wheel diameter and the clearance behind the spokes: we start from the caliper fitted, not the one in the catalogue, if needed from a photo of the fitted wheel.
And the other 911s?
The 964, which comes before it, and the 996, which follows it, each have their own page.
