Frequently asked questions: wheels for the Cupra Born first generation
What are the original offsets for the wheels of a Cupra Born?
According to its Swiss vehicle type records, the same wheel on both axles: 7.5J x 18 and 7.5J x 19 with an offset of 50, 7.5J x 20 with an offset of 44, and 8J x 20 with an offset of 50, the latter under a condition of the record (“nur mit Flaps”). The 18-inch wheel is not permitted on the 170 kW version. [4, 5, 9, 12]
Which tyres, and which load index, does a Cupra Born take?
215/55 R18 with load index 95, i.e. 690 kg per tyre; 215/50 R19 with load index 93, i.e. 650 kg; 215/45 R20 with load index 95; or 235/40 R20 with load index 96 on the 8J wheel, i.e. 710 kg, on both axles. [4, 9, 13]
What is the load per wheel on a Cupra Born?
The Swiss vehicle type record of the 170 kW Born with the 77 kWh battery gives it a permissible load of 1,090 kg on the front axle and 1,260 kg on the rear axle, i.e. 545 and 630 kg per wheel: on this electric rear-wheel-drive car, the rear carries the most; that of the 150 kW version, 1,070 and 1,240 kg, i.e. 535 and 620 kg per wheel. The 215/45 R20 tyre with load index 95 carries 690 kg. [4, 9, 13]
What PCD (bolt pattern), centre bore and bolts does a Cupra Born use?
The PCD is 5x112, the centre bore 57.1 mm, and the wheels are held by M14 x 1.5 bolts tightened to 140 Nm: wheelfitment.eu, koleso.ee and SCC give these measurements (SCC gives no torque). [1, 2, 3]
Same fixing measurements
As original equipment, these cars have the same PCD, centre bore, thread and fixing as the Cupra Born first generation: PCD 5x112, centre bore 57.1 mm, thread M14 x 1.5, fixing: wheel bolts.

Publication rule: a measurement is shown only if a primary source gives it (a manufacturer's document, an official vehicle type record, an original parts catalogue, the maker of the original wheel) without another primary source contradicting it, or if two independent specialist sources agree without a primary source contradicting them. The press and forums do not count. Measurements checked on 21 October 2026 by the Onyx Forged design office.

Cupra Born: 5x112, a 57.1 mm hub, M14 x 1.5 bolts
The electric Cupra Born (type K1), whose first Swiss vehicle type record dates from August 2021, uses 5x112 on a 57.1 mm hub, with M14 x 1.5 wheel bolts tightened to 140 Nm: wheelfitment.eu, koleso.ee and SCC give these measurements, each cited in the table (SCC gives no torque).
From 18 to 20 inches, the same wheel on both axles
The vehicle type record of the Swiss Federal Roads Office (ASTRA), the document that sets the tyre and wheel combinations a car may carry, permits for the Born the same wheel at the front and at the rear: 7.5J x 18 and 7.5J x 19 with an offset of 50, fitted with 215/55 R18 and 215/50 R19 tyres; in 20 inches, 7.5J with an offset of 44, fitted with 215/45 R20 tyres, or 8J with an offset of 50, fitted with 235/40 R20 tyres, the latter subject to a condition worded in the record as “nur mit Flaps”. The 18-inch wheel is not permitted on the 170 kW Born e-Boost. At equal width, the offset of 44 of the 7.5J x 20 wheel places it closer to the wing than the 19-inch wheel.
An electric rear-wheel-drive car: the rear carries the most
The record of the 170 kW Born with the 77 kWh battery gives a permissible load of 1,090 kg on the front axle and 1,260 kg on the rear axle, i.e. 545 and 630 kg per wheel; that of the 150 kW version, 1,070 and 1,240 kg, i.e. 535 and 620 kg per wheel. That is the load the rear wheel must carry, and the tyre must keep at least the load index of the original fitment, 95 in 215/45 R20 (reading a tyre (page in French)); on an electric car, weight and torque also wear the tyres faster (electric car tyres (page in French)).
What these measurements say about a forged wheel
The offset positions the wheel in the wheel arch: a wider wheel, or a lower offset, brings it closer to the wing. The Onyx Forged design office starts from the measurements on this page, your brakes and your tyres to calculate the width and offset of your wheels, then submits them to you. The offset calculator compares two fitments: it compares, it does not choose the measurement for you.
Roadworthiness test: what is examined
The French roadworthiness test (contrôle technique) examines the wheel without removing it (cracks, deformation, a wheel that protrudes beyond the bodywork) and verifies that the tyre size is one provided for by the manufacturer or accepted as equivalent. Keeping a tyre size from the original fitment, and at least its load index, avoids having to justify it; the details are on the roadworthiness test and registration page.
What we record before machining
- The exact version, stated on the registration document, and the current diameter of your wheels.
- The braking system, on which the smallest possible diameter depends (wheels and brakes (page in French)).
- The current fitment, axle by axle, and the 57.1 mm hub bore.
Configure your forged wheels for the Cupra Born
The Onyx Forged design office works out the measurements of your car from its exact version, stated on the registration document, and shows them to you before machining. Each set is cut from forged 6061-T6 aluminium, machined on a 5-axis CNC centre, as monoblock, two-piece or three-piece wheels; our wheels are designed to JWL/VIA standards. Prices by diameter and the lead time are given on this page, under “What Onyx can make”. Start your configuration or write to contact@onyxforgedwheels.com.
